FINALLY got to take my Shield out for a spin...

And it was awesome. Put about 200 rounds through it.
    No Failures to fire...
    No Failures to extract...
Both the 7 round and 8 round mags were 100% reliable aside from one failure to feed on the first or second mag (about 10-15 rounds in to the 200 we fired) that I think was due to my wife using the slide lock to release the slide rather than slingshotting it. (We both did that 100% of the rest of the time and the rest of the time had zero failures to feed)

Ca compliant with (1) mag disconnect (2) LCI flag and(3) manual safety. Up till now I didn't personally think of those features as being issues theoretically, and in practice on the range, here's what we found:

    1. Mag disconnect: I know that you COULD accidentally drop a mag in a stressful situation rendering the gun inoperable, but I think with regular training NOT doing that becomes easier and easier. Neither my XL hand size nor her medium to small hand size ever touched/activated/nudged the mag release. We're practiced shooters, though, so I doubt that'll every be an issue for us.

    2. LCI flag: I couldn't see it while shooting. Neither could my wife. No muss, no fuss. Could care less how it makes the gun look while up. I DO like the fact that you can tell by touch in the dark that the gun is loaded, just like my XD. It's hard to do a brass check in a pitch black room when you've pulled your gun out of it's lockbox. I'd rather know that it's loaded than assume and get a click. LCI does the trick for me.

    3. Manual safety: Haven't used it yet. Don't think I will so long as it's in a quality holster. If I were throwing the gun in a jacket pocket I might click it on, but likely it'll stay seldom used. Functionally, it was very unobtrusive and I found that it was near impossible to imagine a grip that would accidentally activate it.

My wife and I were both shooting 1-2" groups at 7-10 yards without much drama. Highly shootable, supremely comfortable for both big and smallish hands and we both think the stock sights are very adequate, too. I traded my downright painful-to-shoot Ruger LCR for this little hot rod, and lemme tell you, for capacity, ability to quickly reload, thinness and weight whilst carrying, I REALLY think the Shield is a winner. No buyers remorse here.

I'ave had some great range trips with our Shields as well. I was a bit apprehensive about shooting a large number of rounds through it, but it's way more enjoyable than both my wife and i thought. Even compared to the Compact M&P, I still prefer the Shield. I have an LCR as well, that thing isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but still isn't exactly fun like the Shield. Congrats OP!

The inconvenience of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of a good bargain.

Thanks for the review OP. Glad you like your new Shield. My wife and I both have Shields and love them.

Love my shield as well. I thought it was going to be a lot worse to shoot than it actually was. Break the gun in more and it gets even better.

Me and a friend were shooting a spray paint can off a post from about 30 yards away. The accuracy of them amazed us both.

Thats awesome. I found that I kept expecting that there'd be a trade off at a certain point, due to the compact size, short sight radius and tiny barrel, but we kept sending the target carrier out further and further and our groups stayed very consistant until we ran out of ammo.

And that is another good point to make. We blew through 200 rounds of 9mm ammo in about 1.5hrs of shooting and had a great time doing it. I dont think we put more than about 40 rounds total through our LCR. Call us wimps, but that gun was NOT enjoyable to shoot...haha. I'd ask my wife if she wanted me to bring the .38's and she'd always say yes to our pre-model 10 Smith and "whatever" to the LCR...lol. The gun thats fun to shoot is the one you're ultimately going to be the best with, IMO.
