    S&W Shield Discussion

I'm in the market for a 9mm Shield. I've been searching here on CALGUNS to purchase a used one to save a bit on sales tax, etc. What I found is the fluctuation of prices being asked ranging from $450 to $650+. I can buy a new one (CA legal) from my local gun shop for $400 + tax & DROS. I know the off roster ones without the mag disconnect are bring more money and my question is why? Can some one enlighten me?

    Thanks..

The off roster ones are higher because they are off roster and you can't buy them that way. So if you want that particular one, you pay more.

Supply and demand, the free market at its best. What's scarce costs more. Period.

No mag disconnect and no loaded chamber indicator from the factory

        Shield

The biggest thing is if you are for or against the magazine disconnect feature. I for one don't like the magazine disconnect and paid more for the model without it. The LCI is a CALI feature also but doesn't really affect function.

The mag disconnect can be removed as well, simple mod. instructions are out there. Modding a firearm that will be used for a CCW isn't generally recommended but I think that is more for things like trigger pull. Can't imagine the mag disconnect being an issue but I'm no lawyer.

Not like you can buy anything else here. In AZ, they sell for $350.

I SSE'd my shield at the end of '14 to get the off-roster model, but didn't pay much more at the time; $440 vs. $419 +/-.

I see quite a price range on the off-roster models now.

I don't much care for the giant LCI on the CA Shields, I'd prefer the ability to fire w/o a mag, but the main reason I wanted the non-CA model was so the controls would be the same as my full size M&P 9 (No Thumb Safety)
