    Gun store etiquette question

I was in my favorite LGS, conducting a transaction. When I came in, I was the only customer. Soon, two more customers came in after me and a clerk handed one chap a firearm he was picking up. Checking the gun out, the fellow flagged me, the other customer and the clerk with the muzzle. This happened several times while checking it out and again putting it into his rifle bag. It was all I could do to keep from yelling at him.

Under such circumstances, what is proper gun store etiquette? What would you do?

The guy was three times my size. Should I have offered to pay for him to take a firearm safety course?

    It was pretty bad.

It always makes me jump. If I all of a sudden stop what I'm doing and walk away from the guy or to a far corner of the store, they usually get talked to.
Getting swept feels like walking through a ghost, though.

You could have just politely asked him not to point a gun at people...

But I guess that wasn't an option?

You did the right thing. Causing a scene would have accomplished nothing.

            Tell the clerk about it.

No, he let an obvious safety issue occur repeatedly while doing nothing about it.

That doesn't mean he needed to grab the rifle and buttstroke him with it, or start screaming at the top of his lungs, but unless something is said it will simply continue.

You tell them to knock it off, if they continue alert the staff. If the staff does nothing then it should no longer be your favorite LGS and notify them that they've lost a customer.

The mental image I got when reading those two scenarios was a hilarious dose of levity in my day. Thanks.

I would politely ask the other customer to no point the weapon at someone.

You should always correct anybody you see violating the safety rules.

" excuse me, sorry to bother you, but from one gun owner to the next, and I'm sure you are aware of the basic principles, but you did have that firearm pointed at me and a few others while handling that firearm and I don't mean for you to take this the wrong way but please be a little more conscience where the muzzle is pointing. We gun owners need to set an example. Thanks"

I always take two steps back if I see someone point a firearm in my direction.

                              Rule #1 no matter what.
