    Field Periscope

I feel the need for one. I've seen two types.

One is sold by Quantico Arms & Tactical Supply (Oceanside, CA). Adjustable length, adjustable power (1-3X) and all-in-all, a very nice unit. It sells for about $150, which ain't bad, but is more than my wallet can afford right now.

I have seen (on the 'net) a much simpler (read, cheap) way to go. Basically, mirrors are fastened (glued?) in the 'elbows' and straight lengths of PVC are added to give whatever height is desired. It works, I'm told, and is used mostly for paint ball contests.

Is there anywhere in north San Diego County I can go to lay my hands on the cheap version?

Does anyone know of a field periscope that is somewhere between these two extremes?

I honestly don't know where to get one, except maybe Ebay. But I am curious as to what you would use it for?

Being able to see w/o being seen is good, right?

A simple hand mirror will probably work almost as well as the "cheap" version, and you can keep it in your pocket.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

            Merci beaucoup!

The Elenco is listed as a toy, but the Uzi seems to be intended for adults. The price is right also.

Yes, Grumpyoldretiredcop, I could use a simple hand mirror. but I want better results than what I could get with that.

            My thanks to you both.

                Thank you!

I guess I'll be heading to Amazon ASAP!

I went to Amazon and bought the UZI periscope.

It appears to be well made. Short of a "test to destruction," I can't really compare it to the one I saw at Quantico Tactical on S. Coast Hiway in Oceanside, but it seems to be as good. Given that the one at Quantico is a touch over $150, and this was only 1/3 the price, I'd rate the UZI version as a real good buy.

The rubber eyepiece folds down for use with eyeglasses. Most optical devices do. But few are really useful that way. I can use the UZI just fine with glasses.

                  All-in-all, I'm a happy camper.

P.S. Amazon has a few other field periscopes as well. Most of them clearly intended for kids, and priced accordingly. The one I had when I was kid survived for a long time. With modern plastics, I suppose that experience could be repeated. Is it better to get a bunch of kid periscopes instead of one good one (while spending the same amount of money)? Up to you. I went with the good one.
