    Best AR-500 Targets

I have had an 8" AR500 Targets gong for about two years. Today, one of the ears snapped off, I know I could get it drilled but in your opinion, who makes the best 1/2" AR500 targets? I know the quality and how well they hold up to bigger rounds varies a lot by brand. It seems like everyone is selling them now, I am looking at the Wideners one for $35.00. AR500 Targets costs $25.00. Without talking to someone who has shot at their target a lot, it just seems like a crap shoot.

I don't know about buying the steel and making your own. One of the good companies I found was Cit-Tac or Citizens Tactical. I've been shooting their setup for a few years with absolutely no issues. Their targets are tough as you could want but I did get it at a gun show so no shipping. Just my experiance. Good luck.

I just checked out your site a bit. Very nice looking stuff. Do you travel up north for shows?

I learned that shooting rifle rounds on my ar500 3/8 targets will eventually wear them out. I broken off a few ears and there are a few small cracks as well. And this is beating up these targets with 556, 308, x39, and x54r in around almost 2 years. So I consider ar500 3/8 steel targets for rifle rounds "consumable items." I switched over to ar500 1/2 gongs for all rifle shooting and leave the 3/8s for pistol rounds only.

I went with our CalGun vendor Targetman for all my ar500 1/2 gongs. He seems to have the best deal with free shipping.

Here has is awesome AR500 1/2 gong package I bought and use 2 Shepherd hooks to hold each up.

Like car tires, I consider them a "consumable" item.

I misuse/abuse my plates with various rifle calibers and still have a very serviceable 8" round 3/8" thick AR500 target after 2 years. I paid less than $25 for it from Industrial Metal Supply.

The plate I use for pistol is as good as new (minus the single crater formed by a 556 from 10 yrds.). It was under $20 from the same vendor.

I've got a target from 'the target man'. It's only been hit with a few hundred rounds and other than the edges (laser cut perhaps) it looks fine. The edges, if hit by a round, chip out. The best thing about the whole thing was the free shipping. I don't know if it was a deal at the time of it that's a normal thing, but it's nice to not have to pay $25 bucks for shipping a $30 dollar target.
