Caught on camera attempted home invasion in North Hollywood

Crazed Man Arrested After Trying to Break Into North Hollywood Home With Porch Bench

The homeowner in this video actually pulled out his loaded gun but decided not to stop the approaching threat.

He claims the intruder "did not have an aggressive look on his face" even though he was charging at him and ramming the window of his kids bedroom with a bench.

Did he do the right thing? What would you do in this situation?

    Opening the door wasn't smart.

Shouldn't have opened the door to begin with. Probably made the best decision by not pulling the trigger at that point. If the house perimeter was breached then a different story in my opinion.

Wow, scary. Glad he didn't have to shoot the guy.

Never should have opened the door. I don't even open the door when the Jehovah's witness folks come by. Just tell them no thanks, please go away.
          Sorry, not sorry.

Not killing someone when you can retreat and be safe is the best option. The crazy didn't breach the house. His kids on the other hand will be afraid for some time.

He put himself in a worse situation by opening the door, could have ended worse. Secure the loved ones, stay put and call the cops. Let them do their job.

Ya - DO NOT open the door...!

Kids in the house you need to PROTECT...!

911 on the line, kids are secured in a room and you are their guard like a Roman Centurion ... you are last line of defense between the kids and the intruder should he break through and enter.

Crazed look in the eyes, or no crazed look in the eyes ... intruder comes at you in your home, the use of deadly force is authorized.

Don't open the freakin' door! I have a metal security door at each entrance---my house is very old, we don't even have a doorbell---my friends know that when they drop by, to call me on their cell. No call? Behind the metal door live two rescue Pits (72 and 60+ lbs)---they greet unexpected "guests"---depending on their greeting determines if I answer the door with pistol in hand or just very nearby...

Opening the door is just plain stupid. The situation he put himself in was terrible. Another second and that could have been a struggle for a gun. He put himself and his entire family in danger by opening the door. Second when you point a gun at someone you better be ready to use it, this guy wasn't. In my opinion, in the situation HE put himself in with opening the door, I would have shot him if he charged at me. But then again I wouldn't have opened the door to begin with. This guy didn't do anything right, he was just lucky.

Lack of crazed look in the face while trying to break into smash way into house DOES NOT MEAN THE PERSON IS NOT A VIOLENT THREAT!!!!!

There's people out there that can and will gruesomely slice a person open calmly and even smile while they do it.
