I need help on a transfer.

Hey guys, I'm in the Philippines right now with my wife and her family and just got a family vote that says I can take ownership of her grandfather's G.I. 1911 that he used to kill Japanese with during insurgencies after MacArther was forced to retreat. Im going to do this thing right and put it in a display case with a Philippines flag behind it, but I have zero experience bringing a handgun from another country into California and have 8 days to figure this out. Can any if you guys point me in the right direction here? There's no problem getting it out country, but I've got a layover in Seoul and then obviously US customs. Can I bring it with me and mail it to an FFL from customs or do I have to mail it from here?

Any help is much appreciated. I'm sure you guys if anybody can understand how great of an opportunity this is and I'm going to make it happen one way or another!

There's more to it than that.
Try here for a start(and you're probably not going to like it):

This will be a long, difficult, expensive and most likely impossible endeavor I hope you can do it though.

Thanks, that customs link looks doable though. Am going to see where that path leads me.

I think the gun has to be import marked as well before you get it. Hopefully will be able to be done in a small unobtrusive manner.

I'm sure I could find a way to put some unobtrusive stamping on instead of having some guy dremel it in. Kind of sucks, I might have to ask her family to mail it to the states rather than risk taking to customs myself.

ATF has requirements for the size, depth, and content of the import markings. The importer would be taking care of that, not you.

I'm pretty sure that a package coming from out of the country would be subject to inspection. That's a can of worms I wouldn't recommend opening.

Ugimports, a fellow CGN'er, has this site listed for imports on his web site.
