    How does this work?

hi all, i hope this is the right place to ask. i'm curious as to how a PPT would work if today the seller is in socal and i'm up in norcal?

i know the firearm has to be shipped to my FFL, but i'm wondering how does the process go and what fees are involved and finally when do i pay the seller?

has anyone does a PPT like that before? if so, please chime in. i'm very new to doing the PPT this way.

    thanks.

If buyer and seller are not there in person together to do the transaction, then it is not considered a ppt.

If buyer and seller are present, then fees are $25 for DROS + $10 ffl fee.

oic.. so since the seller can't be there.. then what kind of transaction would it be? and are the fees make it not worthwhile?

It would be the same as if you ordered a firearm from somewhere. Some ffls charge a transfer fee which can range from $50-$75. Check with your ffl. Also, keep in mind that this transaction would be subject to roster requirements unless you are roster exempt.

Since the gun has to be shipped to the dealer they can charge anything they like for a "transfer fee" most I've contacted are between $60 - $100, so shop around. Also if it is a handgun it must be on the roster.

Fees will be determined by the FFL, so you need to ask them. Is the firearm a handgun that is on the roster or a long gun? If yes, the transaction can be done. If the firearm is a handgun not on the roster, it is a no go unless you are exempt.

No, it will not work. It is not a ppt. Roster still applies. So, unless you are roster exempt, you won't be able to DROS it.

If the gun is the one that I really want, I'll drive to seller to do ppt.

I don't get the sad face - if it's a pistol you want, drive down there and buy it. Sure, it's two trips, but I consider it's part of my hobby and turn it into a fun road trip.

Not everyone is in a financial position to drive across the entire state of CA. OP probably wanted the pistol but the added $100+ in gas (hotel?) fees just priced the gun out of his range of affordability.

But way to rip on people who don't make enough money to take leisurely cross-state trips.

WOW that just doesn't make scene . I can't believe that is not still considered a PPT . Has anyone challenged this specific thing in court yet ?

There is no real difference in the sale then a so-called PPT . One person is selling it to another .There is virtually no difference . It was not transferred into CA because it's already here legally . The store never owned it therefore they are not selling it . The LGS would have to hold the firearm for the 10 day wait regardless so what's so special about this specific situation ?

This is NOT a rant but real questions .

Anyone else find it sad that those who preach tolerance CAN'T allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that they do not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

LOL - where did the OP state he was too poor to make the trip? In fact, after being informed, he has stated it's doable for him:
