    WW2 reeanctors vs magazine laws

This may have already been discussed before, but how do WW2 reenactors get around large capacity magazine laws?

If I wanted to get it into that hobby and drop the cash on a blank firing 1919 or Thompson SMG, how would I get the requisite belt or mag for it?

Is there some special exemption for reenactor groups?

Nope. Some just do it and dont care because realistically you are unlikely to get caught and no one there is gonna rat you out. Also a good chunk of them are LEO and retired LEO.

Was just recently discussed in this thread regarding competition and the OP asking the DOJ if he could get some special letter or something.

There is no exemption for normal citizens at all.

They were all bought prior to 2000 (or whatever year that pointless law passed). Too bad there's no way to go back in time....

Some use blank firing "imitation firearms".
Since they are legally not classified as firearms, they can legally have short barrels and shoot full-auto.
Most of the crew served MGs are propane/oxygen simulators with a fake belt.

in my experience Reenacting WW2, I've only seen two that i can think of.One is an M2 the other was a m1919. Our group has a M1919 that shoots using cloth belts, A few guys have thompsons made from either demilled recievers or repro receivers. I know two guys that have the SS Room Thompsons that fire backwards and were approved by the ATF to be allowed to be sold full auto due to their designs.

The thompsons we have that are made out of actual receivers and are full auto have pins in the barrels to prevent a live round going through them but they arent approved by the ATF to be a non firearm because really they arent.

One of the German groups has a full auto Mg42 that shoots blanks. Ive never really seen it up close though. So it may not actually shoots blanks but it can shoot pretty fast.
