Storing weapons and valuables when moving

It's been a while since I've visited but I thought I'd give it a shot and ask. My wife and I have been talking about what to do with my rifles/pistols and her jewelry (and other valuables) when we move to the Pacific Northwest. (either OR or WA)

We haven't found a house yet but it' the best time to sell our house here.

I'm wondering if any of you might have an answer to safely transporting and storing the above items while we're finding a new home? Might take a month or two.

We've talked about renting a "vacation" rental home for the time we need to.

I do have relatives up there but I'm not sure about the idea of dropping all that type stuff in their garage while we look for a house.

Any one know how safe PODS are ??

I would find a good storage facility near where I plan to move. Then order a nice safe online and have it delivered to the storage place. Store your guns and other stuff there till you find a house. I once had a very secure indoor storage and it even had an alarm system for each storage room that would alert the manager if it was opened without the password being inputted at the front gate first.

How many guns are you talking about storing?

When you sell your house, you can store the guns in a locked container in your moving truck when you move to OR or WA. This is assuming you are driving your own moving truck. If not, then you'll just have to find some place where you can put your safe to store the guns and jewelry.

When I moved to VA, I stored most of my guns in a safe in a realtive's basement which only I had a key to. Over several months, I brought my guns to VA on return trips to CA.

There are alot of moving threads on the forum from the past.
Here in general and in OT...maybe a few in other places.

I suggest you look through those for information.

I would look for a private vault.

We did the same thing. Sold our primary house then lived in a rental for 10 months.

Have a friend or family member you trust? We had a month and a week where my firearms would've been unattended so I packed all but one of them in two custom crates that I made and then took them to a close friend's house until the day we left California.

We kept valuables and irreplaceable documents like passports, birth certs, diplomas, shot records, her small jewelry collection, computer backups, and sundry other stuff in a safe deposit box at the bank. Closed it out the week we came back to move. IIRC, it cost about $60 for the box.
