can pregnant women go shooting?

My wife's dr said it was fine until the 2nd trimester when the baby's ears form. After that it's a no go. Talk to your wife's dr and see what he/she has to say on the subject. Most here really aren't qualified to answer this question."Suck on my machine gun" (Ted Nugent)

Would you want to swim in a pool where someone is shooting underwater?
The potential downsides of going are huge for the baby. My wife did not go when pregnant and you will never convince me that it is safe when wife is +1.For Sale: Off Roster Handgun Moving Sale

My wife took a Thunder Ranch handgun class with me when she was pregnant at four months. Doc said it was fine because of how insulated the womb is. Little guy is 5 years old. No hearing problems whatsoever. Gunpowder was never considered questionable.
But best to do what your own doctor suggests.Comment

dang, why would anyone chance any damage?!
9 months isn't much to wait given a defect is for life."The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

The baby has no hearing protection.. personally, given the noise, concussive force and chemicals/metals I wouldn't risk it..Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Comment

I have always heard that the lead exposure is what you really want to avoid. This alone would make any indoor shooting a big red flag, and (IMO) even makes outdoor shooting fairly questionable. Questionable enough that when my wife gets pregnant, She will not be going shooting. Like MZ pointed out, why even take the risk?
The hearing issue is less commonly brought up, but I imagine it would be less significant. If a child can put his hands over his ears and suffer no serious damage from a gunshot, I would imagine the womb and several layers of muscle/skin/tissue between the baby's ears and the gun would b e enough to sufficiently protect their hearing. I am not a doctor though. The idea is more or less that you can't really be certain whether or not an infant in the womb is more susceptible to hearing damage - therefor, why take the risk?

The local gun ranges around here don't let pregnant women shoot because of the smoke and lead being potentially dangerous.vindicta inducit ad salutem?Comment
