Sig P229 ejection issues??

I took my neighbor shooting yesterday and he had a brand new Sig P229 in 9mm. It was the first tim I have ever shot a Sig, and I liked it a lot, only it kept having issues. It malfunctioned on us about 8 times in about 100 rounds. It seemed like it wasn't ejecting the brass fast enough and the other round would get caught up on the empty case. Very frustrating that this kept happening. We were using 115 grain WWB ammo. Does he need to put a certain amount of ammo in it to break it in? I thought maybe he was limp writing it, so another guy and myself shot it and it jammed on us too. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

If it's brand new it may just need to be broken in but so far I never had a problems with my brand new guns. The only problem I had with my P229 was with the Russian steel cased ammo other then that it runs flawlessly.

The most common answers are: Clean the gun before shooting, properly lubed, use factory ammo, try different ammo ... If these don't correct the problem, then inspect the magazine, extractor , etc.

+1 for what Barang said about cleaning and lubing it. Most Sig's do like to be run a little on the wet side. Not drenching, but plenty of it. Also, I would try a hotter load such as a 124gr or higher. I've found that my P229 in .40 likes the 180 gr a lot better than the 165gr. Just my .02.

Stiff recoil spring together with stiff magazine spring together with weak ammo.

Another one is the high bore axis together with tea-cup gripping. I have seen many many users at the range tea-cupping their Sigs. It probably was not in your case.

A couple of years ago, Sig was having issues with their redesigned, larger extractor they were putting on elite models. I had the same issue, about 1 out of every 25 rounds was failing to extract, etc. Dunno if your friend's has the large extractor, but Sig handled my issue in less than a week.
