Proper eye relief - cheek weld ?s

So I have a couple of long guns that fit me great....then there's my tikka t3. I love that thing, it shoots great, low recoil with the 7mm-08 round, but that stock is just too low.

I need to get a higher cheek weld on the stock. I've seen some of the pads like this: http://amzn.com/B007FTAS8S

Is one preferable over the other? I'm not too fond of the idea of drilling holes through my stock, even though it's just the normal factory stock. I'm hoping to hear from some of you experts.

Get yourself some masking tape(so it doesn't leave glue everywhere), set stuff on the comb of the stock and build it up till you get the right height.

Then go and buy a pad or stock pack that is approximately the same thickness that you built up.

I've never used the Voodoo pad, but the Triad is basically the standard for stock packs.

Depends. Remember that what you're asking about is something that can be resolved with a piece of a foam/rubber mat and some duct tape.


How nice you want it to look, or whether or not you need extra pockets are up to you. That might mean a simple stick on pad works, a $20 voodoo pack, a $40 triad tactical pack(their stuff is nice though) or $100+ on a bradley cheek rest.

One item you can use to build up the cheek weld gradually is those pipe foams you can find in hardware stores. Cut them in half and you have a foam that will fit onto the stock. You can then use masking tape over it.

How high is your scope mounted? What size is the OB lens?

44mm objective. I'm using talley medium rings. I might be able to use the small rings, but I'm not sure if that would bring the scope down to the height I'm looking for. Here's my setup:

Lower rings may help some but make sure the handle wont hit your scope.
I have the Triad pad and its really nice. Comes with Velcro inserts to build up as a riser but on your stock, I'd look at getting the Triad and building it up with a good dense foam like pool noodle or foam pipe insulation.

The first thing I would do is lower the scope.
If you have the factory rings put them on. They work just fine for both of my Tikka's and I have shot many, many rounds in each rifle.

I have a B24 on my 6.5CM Savage and am quite happy with it. It is easily removed for cleaning too.

Yup- scope is too high.

Always mount the scope as low as possible.

Any stock pack will work just fine. A very common material under the pack to raise the height is an old mouse pad- wetsuit material. However many layers you need under the stock pack to get the height you want. I know one guy that carved a soft wood block under his.. maybe some people are using their wifes maxi pads.... But.. mouse pad/wetsuit foam is very common for this.

Eagle and midway have cheap stock packs.
