Help with giving guns to my son

Hope you can help or point me in the right direction. I would like to give my son two rifles, a .22 and .308. I still live in California and he lives in Virginia. Do I have to transfer these from a 01 CA dealer to a 01 Virginia dealer or do I just send them to a Virginia 01 dealer. Not sure how to do this and remain legal. Thanks, Steve

You may send them to an 01 FFL in Virginia as long as the receiving FFL will accept them from you.

Call your son's FFL and see how they want them shipped.

Go visit him in Virginia and take the guns with you. When you get there give them to him. Done. Virginia dose not care. And California can suck it. Just don't fly through New Jersey or New York City with guns. They are not part of the USA.

Good way to get a federal felony.

Doing this would violate Federal laws that have been in effect for about 47 years. [18 USC 922(a)(3)&(5)]

In order to comply with Federal laws, the firearms must be transferred through a VA FFL dealer.

There is no gift exemption to these Federal laws and the bequest/inheritance exemption to these Federal laws requires the giver to be dead & the receiver to be named in the giver's will.
