How does Sig 1911 stack up to SA 1911

So at the gun shop today to pick up my CZ mags, and look in the case to see a Sig 1911 45 cal half rail in SS, looks to be 5" barrel, full size.

I ask to look at it and wow the feel is good, & the slide function is awesomely smooth. Now this gun which I didn't get model# so my bad, is selling at $1050.

But I do really like SA 1911 and there reputation, but rarely get to handle one, as there just not on the shelf in my area, when I'm in the stores.

So how would you, who have these, in this price range rate both, for accuracy, build, upgradeability, & warranty for repairs & service.

I would like this type of firearm for out to 40-60yds, is it possible to expect decent accuracy out of the box or will I need to throw more money at it ?

And is Sig a clear winner, or would SA be a better bet, as I'm not sure, and will leave to the experts here.

Just noticed a lot of Sig 1911's in FS, this can't be good.

I may have gotten my answer in FS.

I just recently purchased a Sig XO stainless w/ crimson trace grips after debating between it and a SA. The fact that it was on sale for $300 off original price ended up being the deciding factor for me, but I'm positive I made the right decision.

In the first 100 rounds, I had a couple FTF's which worried me a little. I figured it could just be the break in factor, but I did some research and decided to start with the most common solution which was to order a couple wilson combat mags. Apparently Sig 1911 mags are the one downfall of the platform. I just put 100 more rounds through it today, switching between Sig and WC mags, and it ran flawlessly. In fact, this might just be my most accurate gun, replacing my S&W 686+. It's definitely my new favorite handgun to shoot.

You won't go wrong with a Sig 1911 platform. A good 1911 will have some break in but that is part of the game. My Sig 1911 is honestly flawless. If you really can't find an SA then go for Sig and sling lead.

The drawbacks that I hear about Sigs are the grip safety is uncomfortable and the external extractor.

Mine has been rock solid. Several thousand rounds downrange without issue.

I've shot both. I own both SA and SIG, but not a Sig 1911. I went with a SA because of availability, price, accuracy and legendary customer service. My loaded fits perfectly. Where Sig edges SA out, IMHO, is in the features you get at the same price point.

The grip safety on the first generation of Sig 1911s was uncomfortable, it's fine on the current models. And their external extractor works fine.

It's fine for you on the current models.

It may work fine, but that isn't the drawback. Those who belong to the church of JMB will say that it is not a true 1911 because of it. Personally, I don't see any reason to reinvent what had already worked for generations.

The differences between a regular 1911 vs a Sig 1911 is in the slide profile and the external extractor. Neither are bad, just different. If you're shopping for holsters, you have to specifically get one made for a Sig. Otherwise, a standard 1911 will fit any 1911 holster.

I don't have any experience with Sig CS, but my experience with SA has been without a doubt, the best out there.

                      Mostly this^^

I've seen a lot more good than bad about sig 1911's. For their price points they are very competitive and of high value bang for the buck.

To start, I own a SA 1911 Loaded, and LOVE my SA to death. But that said when I was in the market it was between a few 1911's around the $1,000 - $1,300 range. After a few months of researching and shooting and holding i narrowed it down to the SA and Sig. Both again had a LOT to offer, reputable names and reputable products for their price points.

The only reason I didn't pickup the sig and went SA, was the fact the Sigs were the new kids on the block and everyone and their mom was buying them to be part of the "I was the first to have" crowd and bandwagon. And because of the external extractor and square slide (aesthetics). I liked the different look, but didn't like it because it wasn't "1911" if you will.

Also at the time the aftermarket holder support for the sig was almost non existant due to the frame design. But all of that I could look past for a good 1911.

What sold me 100% on the SA was their lifetime warranty on the product. Which I used and they delivered. I called their CS to see if they could send me a new FLGR which I stripped out on mine first to with the Allen key, didn't care much being I was going to the GIGR anyways just wanted the FLGR for resale if I ever sold it.

Well the girls on the phone were more than friendly and told me they couldn't send parts but could inspect the firearm and have the shop replace it. They also told me through conversation find any otherdefects and have them touch it all up in one go since it's being sent it antways.

So I listed the stripped FLGR (my fault), idiot scratch (my fault), and SA logo that was a bit faded on the slide and had them double check the slide to frame fit, well just cause.

They sent me back a small cheap hard case, a new FLGR, Repolished my entire gun (it's a SS) to remove the idiot scratch, re-etched the slide logo, and just to go the extra mile and fully trued/tuned my slide/frame fit and made it a lot better than how I sent it out. No questions asked. I think the whole process only took 2 weeks there and back as well.

So I hopefully this helps some. I say, not pick. Cause both shoops service you well.

I've managed to get mine to fit any leather 1911 holster I've bought. It also fits just fine in a Colt 1911 Serpa.

I have both SIG and SA 1911s, both in stainless. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either one again - they just run and haven't needed any work in over 1000 rounds on each. I did put a lighter trigger in the SIG just because.

The SIG is a series 80 if that matters to you. On accuracy, I only shoot offhand out to 25 yards and can generally hit a 6" circle about 9/10 times. But you're probably talking about shooting off a rest if you're going to 60 yards, and I don't do that with pistols at all so can't comment.

I think your SIG pricing is high, unless you're looking at some model I'm not aware of:

                          Sig Sauer 1911R .45 ACP 5” black w/rail w/night sights .............. $849
                          Sig Sauer 1911 .45 ACP 5” black w/night sights ...................... $799
Stainless is just a few bucks more....

                          Springfield 1911 Milspec .45 ACP 5” parkerized ................ $699
                          Springfield 1911 Milspec Stainless .45 ACP 5” .................. $749
                          Springfield 1911 Service Loaded Parkerized .45 ACP 5” PX9109L $799
                          Springfield 1911 Service Loaded Stainless .45 ACP 5” PX9151L . $849

I do like the traditional slide profile better, but both are tight and smooth. Really no complaints at all about either.

I own a SIG 1911, a Springfield Loaded 1911, and two Springfield TRPs. The TRPs are in a league of their own. If a TRP is an option for you, get one. But the SIG and the SA Loaded are both great guns. Between the two, I consider the Loaded to be more refined, and the SIG to be more sturdy. I would be happy with either one, but I consider the Loaded to be a better gun.

FWIW, I have a Sig 1911 Stainless and an SA 1911 Loaded stainless (in 9mm). I think the Sig is a far better engineered 1911. It's not that the SA is bad but the Sig is that much better (especially considering they both cost nearly the same).
