I was under the impression that gun ownership was declining, but John Phillips finds otherwise:

That and family unit size (and as a result; quantity) have also changed.
one family with four people and guns.... becomes divorced families (two households) with dad owning guns in a single person household. re: 1 in 4 people in a household with guns and 50% less families. When the reality; no change in gun ownership actually happened.
This stuff definitely hits the numbers. The children in the hypothetical might have their own guns and go shooting with dad; but if mom has custody.... they're not in a household with them.
A fair question might be 'why did you chose to calculate gun ownership along these lines; vs... you know... how many people own guns and what percentage they are of the total 18 year old plus population? Seems like you wanted to end up at a particular result'.Last edited by sl0re10; 03-26-2015, 9:17 AM.Comment

The research question also also does not appear to account for the increase in households - up from 64 million in 1970 to 115 million in 2014. If this study found that only 32 percent reported living in a household with guns now versus 50 percent in 1970, that means that at least 32 million households had guns in 1970 versus 37 million today - an increase of five million households. Only a liberal media would call this a decline.Comment

I laughed when I saw the first of those "studies" here.
I just started a couple years ago and three new sets of folks have joined us.
Those lines at the LGSs in the last 2 or 3 years weren't just for the pros.Originally posted by Kestryll:
