Seeing if the community had any suggestions on gun safes for the car. I got a newer car and want a safe that can hold pistol plus mag. The center console in my car is pretty big and can hold alot. I was thinking put the safe in there or maybe under the seat of if space allows between driver seat and center console. Idea is for ease of accesss yet concealablity. Thanks for the info guys

Nanovault for simplicity fits a 226 and a spare mag just finesigpicOriginally posted by gun toting monkeyboyYou did ask. They were only following your instructions. Next time be a bit more careful in how you phrase your posts. If you give people a straight line like that, this is about the level of response you are bound to get. Just be glad you didn't post "Date this rifle"... Those pictures are usually very disturbing.

I have a Console Vault in my 2005 Dodge Ram. The fit and finish is superb, and install literally took five minutes or less as these are built for your specific year/make/model vehicle. They're a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I was under the impression that this is not legal because it is mounted to the car making it a utility box.I have a Console Vault in my 2005 Dodge Ram. Yeah, FYI people you can have a "gunsafe" in your car if it uses a strap or tether of some kind but mounting any type of box permanently affixed to your vehicle makes it part of the vehicle or a "utility box". That means it is no longer a locked container within the vehicle, its the equivalent of locking it in your glove box.
12026.1. (a) Section 12025 shall not be construed to prohibit any
citizen of the United States over the age of 18 years who resides or
is temporarily within this state, and who is not within the excepted
classes prescribed by Section 12021 or 12021.1 of this code or
Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, from
transporting or carrying any pistol, revolver, or other firearm
capable of being concealed upon the person, provided that the
following applies to the firearm:
(1) The firearm is within a motor vehicle and it is locked in the vehicle's trunk or in a locked container in the vehicle other than
the utility or glove compartment.
(2) The firearm is carried by the person directly to or from any
motor vehicle for any lawful purpose and, while carrying the firearm,
the firearm is contained within a locked container.
(b) The provisions of this section do not prohibit or limit the
otherwise lawful carrying or transportation of any pistol, revolver,
or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person in
accordance with this chapter.
(c) As used in this section, "locked container" means a secure
container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock,
combination lock, or similar locking device.
here is an excerpt from wiki: Transportation
When being transported, handguns must be unloaded and in a locked fully enclosed container other than the glove box or any console attached to the vehicle. The trunk of a car is considered to be a locked container but a glove box or "utility box" is specifically forbidden.Last edited by DocSpaulding; 03-25-2015, 10:53 PM.Comment

As we discussed in the other thread, there is some debate on the legality of the Console Vault. My thought is that it's far more secure than any cable lock box. Further, I feel that the legislative intent is to prevent people from 'securing' a gun in their glove compartment or similar storage area of their vehicle and having it readily accessible (think road rage incidents, the Offspring's song "Bad Habit," etc.) or otherwise relatively unsecured and easily accessed by unauthorized persons.
I doubt any law abiding CCW holder would have issue if contacted by law enforcement and it was noticed they were using such a storage device.Comment

Hornady (the ammo People) make a fine under the seat safe. It locks at three points and made of a higher gauge steel then the Nano or Micro vaults. Rock solid. Around $35 smackers...
Better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.
