We don't have definitive answers to these questions, and maybe we never will. What we know for certain is that Tom Schweich, like dozens of people in America each day, was a victim of gun violence. If he and 10% of others who attempt suicide by a firearm instead attempted it by taking an overdose of pills, we would have 1,900 fewer suicide fatalities each year.

Some may argue that if a gun was not available, another means of suicide would be used. However, as shown by events in Australia, for example, this is not necessarily the case.

Except in Asia where it is the case, but let's leave that out.

The best part:

Ingesting pills or poison are, perhaps unsurprisingly, the most common method for attempting suicide, accounting for about 75% of all suicide attempts, but these methods result in death only 6% of the time. Yet while firearms are the means used in only 10% of suicide attempts, they are fatal more than 95% of the time.

They're pissed because guns work as advertised. Well, we'll get right on those safer guns and safer bullets.

I think we should subsidize the burial costs for those that use a gun instead of causing society to waste huge amounts of resources trying to save their stupid arse after a half-hearted attempt with pills or poison. At least the shooters didn't sissy foot about.
