But first:
At about 5:40 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2015, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of Glenway and Bradshaw Streets, Dorchester in District B-3 (Mattapan).
Officers proceeded to the area of Erie Street when the 911 dispatcher broadcast that the suspect was wearing a red hat and ski mask and fled on foot toward Harvard Street. Officers observed a group of two males and two females walking on Erie Street towards Harvard. One of the males was wearing a ski mask to cover his face. As the officers pulled their vehicle beside the group, the male with the ski mask slowed his pace and reversed direction. When the officers exited the vehicle, the masked male broke into a sprint. Officers followed the suspect, who appeared to be holding something in his left coat pocket. As officers gained ground on the suspect, they observed him throw a silver-colored firearm over a fence with his left hand. Moments later, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. The firearm was found in a driveway in the area of 47 Wolcott Street. The officers observed that the grip of the loaded firearm had broken when it struck the windshield of a parked vehicle, however, officers determined that it was a working firearm. The officers also observed that the firearm had cracked the windshield.
The suspect was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile from Dorchester and too young to obtain a license to carry a firearm. The juvenile was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Wanton Destruction of Property over $250.
