    Native American Reservations

    Hey Guys and Gals,

They other day I was at Native American Casino and a thought popped up in my head. Now I haven't done much research in this so dont make fun of me. But why hasn't the Native American's started selling firearms? I am sure they are only susceptible to certain Federal laws? Maybe they would have to follow the ATF laws for firearms.

This would be a huge advantage over California selling guns. No more Roster, 10 day waits (I know this may go away), 1 handgun every 30 days etc. Of course we would still have to have bullet buttons on AR / AK type guns and 10 round magazines and tax stamps etc. I am sure the Native Americans could make a lot of money and I am sure a lot of Californians would be happy to buy any gun they want that isn't on the roster.

Again this is just a thought maybe someone with more knowledge in this area can chime in why this hasn't happened yet.

I think this has been brought up before and I think it has been discussed on the AZ shooting forum. They are sovereign nations to a point but still subject to some laws and I think gun laws are still something they are mainly still subject too. I'd like to hear different if anyone knows for sure.

Can or will ATF or BIA do anything if someone on the rez has a full auto or sawn off shotgun without the correct licensing? I really can't see it ever happening that they can or will open up gun shops to sell to us especially in violation of state law. Even if legal I think they will stick with the casinos.

I don't know about selling guns, but they should be able to set up a rifle range and rent 30 rd mags for ARs and AKs. You could blast a way while singing
FU California Gun laws. Now that would be fun!

I've worked with so cal casinos for over 20 years and the Tribes know how good they have it with their casinos and will not do anything like what your mentioning that might upset the govt. Oh, they also have their own private gun ranges on their reservations.

That's why they 'Vonuntarily" agreed to pay taxes on Casino earnings. Just to keep the State money grubbers out of their pockets as much as possible.

Even thought they are legally Sovereign Nations that hasn't stopped illegal incursions onto Indian Lands by Fed LE.

The Lakota Nation grows "hemp" as a commercial interprise. Real make into rope HEMP. Not give it a cute name and smoke it cannibus hemp.

DEA regularly and illegaly raided them and stripped their fields of plants. Federal Courts refused to hear the cases they filed against the US Gov.

I personally think they should have pulled another Wounded Knee Uprising and exercised their 2A rights. I think it would have ended better this go around with internet support.

Even if you bought a firearm on a Rez. You couldn't leave the Rez with it unless you complied with all applicable State and Fed laws.

Same for tax free alcohol and tabacco you buy on a Rez. When you leave the Rez with it you're "supposed" to file a tax form for it.

Tribes with accessible casinos make about 500/day per slot machine.

CA is a Public Law 280 State.
Which means CA Penal Codes are enforced on Indian Reservations in CA.

              Therefore...
Legal Title 2 firearm ownership on CA Indian Reservations must comply with Federal and CA laws.

I used to buy my dad cigarettes when we drove past a reservation in Nevada. No federal/state tax on them. Wonder if they would be able to avoid the Federal excise tax on guns too.

I go to Northern Arizona for work every other week and to put it mildly, the Indians up there don't like anyone. No matter how friendly or respectful you are. I'm white but they treat my coworkers of other races just as bad. I thought for a long time that they just didn't like white people. Anyhow for this reason, I don't go to any of their casinos or stores or support them in any other way. I wouldn't buy a gun or anything else from an Indian.

Just a thought: I don't gamble and probably wouldn't spend a weekend at a casino resort. But if they had a full auto range and legitimate instructors to teach full auto classes, I'd be in. In my dreams, right?

In your dreams. Isn't going to happen. Probably not worth the risk and trouble especially when the casinos pull in such major money. Some tribes make some serious cash. I've heard stories about how they hate whitey and all but I've heard some are OK and it is overstated. I plan on mainly staying off reservations when I move to AZ. I don't need to deal with the myriad of Byzantine laws they have regarding guns.

Reservations know that the Federal Government can strip their sovernty at any time, for any reason. Therefore, they are reluctant to 'poke the bear'.

They do have great ranges, Pala locally is a good one, 890 yards.

What he said. That's why the Indians couldn't open casinos until California opened the door to gambling by legalizing the lottery.
