What happened here? (Mystery solved!)

This little gem was hidden in a lot of once fired LC '12 .308 military brass. Its also marked LC '12 and I'm pretty sure its a 30-06 case. Here it is between a .308 from the same lot, and an unfired Lapua 3006 case for comparison.



Any guesses what happened?

Pic of the headstamp on the 30-06?

At first I thought the marks were from the rifling on a 308 Win rifle, but lands are flatter than that, so it seems unlikely.

I could chalk up the headstamp to a boo-boo at LCAAP/ATK. The marks on the neck, I don't know. Is the primer pocket dirty or did it have an expended primer in the pocket when you got it?

Either way, a neat mystery.

Do all the 7.62/308 cases have the exact same stamp? Do they have the NATO cross-in-circle?

Ahhh nice work guys! That's gotta be it; it has to be 3006 blank. I knew not to let myself get excited that maybe somehow LC was making new 3006.

FYI here's the headstamps compared. The 3006 blank is on the left, 7.62NATO on the right.
