Went out this morning to dial in a couple of my rifles on some secret stash BLM land near my house, when I got there I was disgusted by what I found:





I think whoever is doing this needs to loose thier trigger fingers, or whole damn hands so they can never shoot a firearm again!

Walmart special shotgun shells, steel cased wolf 7.62x39 and .223, .22 shells, glass, computers, tvs... a whole freaking bunch of trash.

Sad part is that no one gives a damn and will continue to tear up public land across the state until all acess is blocked.

Well, instead of shooting, I spent several hours picking up trash. Barely made a dent, but I had to do something.

Good thing I keep garbage bags in my truck for dead (animal) bodies!

Im starting to think that BLM needs to shut down target shooting on all its lands, otherwise, no one will be able to acess any of it for any reason. I dont want to see my hunting, riding and hiking areas shut down because of irresponsible gun owners!

Its hard to say what would be a solution to the problem. If this is a repeat usage site a friendly sign to pick up after yourself would likely be the next target.

This may not work, but as Movie Zombie suggests, put up a sign. We have had a impromptu range right outside town on USFS managed land. We've had it set up a couple of years now w/ out it getting trashed, or the USFS messing with it. Some folks don't police their brass, but better than tvs, toilets, computers, cars, etc. Unfortunately some people have propensity act like pigs and sign our no sign will change that. Good luck and thanks for trying to clean up after the herd of thumbed swine..

Reminds me of Burning Man. After the Burn and before we leave, we are expected to clean up our campsite and remove all traces of MOOP (matter out of place). Responsibility starts with the individual, and tens of thousands of us do check the Playa and remove debris. Like hikers, we pack out what we pack in. (Otherwise BLM imposes some really expensive fines and restrictions.) The thing is the message regarding MOOP removal starts from the top and is included with all the mailed paperwork we get as well as at the Burning Man site. Wondering if the NRA puts out the same message to remind shooters to police their crap on BLM land. Apparently not.

You're right! I just checked my NRA shooter's guide and only mentions picking up my used needles and crack pipes, but says nothing about picking up spent brass.

I have a feeling the folks who left that stuff out there don't read American Rifleman.
