another 80% thread

I've searched for days and still find myself scratching my head. I am thinking of doing an 80% ar pistol build. My question is more of on the registration/stamping a serial number on it. On the main ar pistol thread everyone was talking about after you finish your build, you could do a voluntary registration? If it's not required do you just leave the lower unmarked? I would think that you would have to do some kind of paperwork to let doj or someone know that you did the build. Does anyone know what you need to do after you do an 80% build?

I am under the impression that you do voluntarily register it as a pistol. I am looking into it. I have 3 80% future pistol builds going on.

makes more sense to me now. So if i do the build i have to have a make (my name) and a serial number. I still need clarification on what i HAVE to do after that like who do i need to tell that i build it if anyone. But im pretty sure that you would have to tell some kind of branch that you did such a thing

I would reccomend you have it engraved with your makers mark and location, model and serial number

there is really no legal basis unless you sell it (I really would recommend not selling home built pistols in CA, it could open up a big can of worms)

Then, if you want to (no requirement to do so, but it could make your life easier if you have to explain it to inquisitive law enforcement) you can fill out the voluntary registration paperwork.

so say i were shooting it after i built it, if i were to be stopped at the range, legally they can't do anything to me as long as its configured correctly? Also any reason you didnt make that one semi?

also if i were to start with a 80% i would not have to start with a single shot and covert later? I can go 80% straight to semi or would i still have to do single action then covert?

Legally, no they can't really do anything, but you better have your ducks in a row and know exactly WHY it is legal and have a copy of the DOJ letters on the subject.

Opinions differ on whether you can build it single shot or semi first, but you should probably configure it as a single shot just to be on the safe side.

I build snorky as a strait pull so I could use big mags, I had a little 4 inch stainless barrel and those are really too short to put a gas system on.

its a toy, its not practical.
