    The rundown on Tactical Vests...

I've been thinking alot lately about getting some type of high-quality Tactical Vest for SHTF scenarios.

I never knew how much I might like them, so I bought a cheaper one to 'test' the waters. I got the vest and like it alot, now I think I want to spend some money on something serious.

I was weighing my options. It sounds like the MOLLE style plate carriers are the standard.

But I was also looking at the Blackhawk! D.O.A.V. vest:

It looks good to go right of the box. Holds 12 30rd Magazines, etc

But MOLLE vest I would spend extra money on mag pouches, etc, but it sounds like there are alot more options, configurations I could go with. Plus I could get a Plate Carrier MOLLE vest and get a ballistic plate.

Anyways, I don't want something restrictive, but I don't want to compromise quality and I need to know when SHTF that when Im running through the streets nothing is going to come loose, fall off, etc.

There seems to be ALOT of options/configurations out there for vests, and I just need to know which ones might best suit me for what I need

Opinions please on recommendations for vests would be great

    thanks
    J

That would be something good to put over a plate carrier..

I guess that means that's what I should spend my money on first?

Would any MOLLE style Plate Carrier work? Are there certain brands I should stay away from?

For the plates themselves - I was looking at these Rifle plates:

Rifle Protection - a wide selection of Small Arms Protection Inserts (SAPI ) in Steel, Ceramic and Ultra-light Polyethelene Plates in ballistic Level III and Level IV, plus Rifle Plates Carriers.

10x12 plates that are $480/pair (front and back) and are Level III & IV BPL

I would assume these plates are GTG?

      So far -
I need to get MOLLE Plate Carrier
      Rifle Plates
      Blackhawk DOAV vest

On the right track so far?

get a molle compatable plate carrier and assorted pouches. you dont want to have to deal with both plate carrier and rack. look more towards carrying 6-7 mags and haveing couple utility pouches. rember when its heavy less is more

                  Seriously...

dont waste your time or money on plates, carriers, helmets, etc.
When the SHTF, Im gonna shoot in the face, no vest is gonna help you.

Spend that money on food, water, ammo, guns, and learning how to survive.

Mall ninjas will be the first to die, I guarantee.

Thanks, but I'll create a new thread when I'm looking for survival supplies.

This thread however, is inquiring about Vests/Plate Carriers, etc.

If SHTF and you find yourself in a situation that you can't handle with a mag, you're hosed anyway. I can't forsee carrying more than three rifle mags, since if you have to run for it, you'll need to carry a lot of other more important stuff like water...

Thanks for that. I'm very glad that you don't like the topic at hand, and feel the need to be negative.
