It's because people see all the headlines "Obama is banning common AR-15 ammunition", or hear it second-hand, and panic. They don't bother investigating the actual details.

And yeah, at this point it's hard to have too much sympathy for someone who still hasn't bothered to stock up.

Yeah seriously? The panic buyers buy up all the M855 then move on to EVERYTHING else? SG Ammo was almost totally out of 556/223. Obama is really doing the stockholders of gun and ammo companies a huge favor. Hopefully they put some of that into the NRA/ILA war chest.
