No longer Buying and selling

When I was just a young lad (2 minutes ago) I would rejoice in the fact that I could buy and sell firearms with no problem. Mainly because I could not afford every gun that I wanted. Well after an experience with a purchaser prohibited on a ppt (I was the seller) I decided to stop selling my guns. Now I know that means nothing to some of you folks, because you never sell, but I can now start growing my collection which is a pretty cool thing in my eyes . So I go that going for me.

I do buy (usually new firearms) and sell mostly used because after a few years with most of my firearms I grow tired or bored and want the 'better for me' handgun or rifle. I seldom keep firearms that don't get shot a bit- no safe queens for me, and I don't own many firearms. When I sell, it nearly always goes to help fund another purchase.

I do now put what amounts to a liquidated damages clause to warn the buyer if they are a prohibited person they agree to a refund less $50-$75, dependent on how much time spent dealing with the person, driving distance, etc., said refund to be given solely in my discretion upon return of the firearm to me, or upon its resale. That part of the deal discourages those who knowingly are prohibited. To those who are prohibited without personal knowledge- too bad! I refuse to waste all the time, energy and effort without some penalty and reimbursement. In a sale I have never encountered a prohibited person, though I think it more likely if so encountered, the person did not know they'd be denied.

If I have to drive some distance and the buyer has very low post count coupled with very low number of iTraders, I will usually demand and receive a non-refundable deposit to secure their presence at the PPT, to be deducted from the sale price. This has worked for me-but one time I drove 100 miles round-trip and the guy, who had virtually no posts and only one or two iTraders, took the deposit personally. Well, I did not know this guy from Adam and I don't trust anyone (with such low post/iTrader) to drive such distance and he took it personally, when I told him it was business, not personal. He refrained from leaving feedback and I certainly was not going to leave feedback first...it was an unpleasant transaction even though the buyer was very pleased with the firearm as represented.

And if a buyer wants me to wait more than three days or so to do the PPT, dependent on their number of posts and iTrader, I will not mark SPF to them unless given an advance non-refundable deposit. It is hard (for me) to take seriously a potential buyer with low post/iTrader counts who wants a seller to wait more than that period and basically take the item off the market without such deposit.

I'm not as difficult as some people selling here. Some people selling here refuse to even deal with those who have low posts and/or iTrader. I will sell to you even if zero posts and zero iTrader. But a non-refundable deposit will be required on a firearm if buyer falls into either category. It will almost always be less than the 30% required to place a gun on layaway at a popular retailer here in SoCal.

All being said, I will not be selling for a while because I do not want to really part with any of my remaining firearms.

How do you usually receive or ask for the deposit before meeting? Paypal? DD?

One should not be selling his guns unless if the money is needed to feed the kids or to pay the rent.

I only buy guns that I like / love / lust after...I regret every gun I've ever sold and will likely never sell one again.

I normally dont sell my guns but as I am moving out of this state later this year, I will be selling all of my California registered handguns before I move and purchasing better ones once I get out of Ca and not having to register them...

I don't have an issue selling to people with no iTrader or 100+. Gotta start somewhere. Have not had one bad deal due to the fact that I treat them with respect and they do the same.
I have sold most of my collection due to bills and just wanting to wittle down to those guns I know I will shoot.

I hate selling guns because I would always lose $200-300 because of the accessories I include with the gun. On several occasions, I felt glad after the buyers changed their minds and the deals fell through. I learn to keep my current guns and not buy new guns.

I don't sell guns either. I keep increasing my collection because I have four kids that all like shooting and will get my collection someday.

I don't have any problem buying and selling my hardwares. The primary benefit is that I get to try them out. Renting guns at the range is not the same. I keep the ones that I like and sell the ones that don't fit me. The only minor problem I have is that my buying is more than my selling. I am sure I am not alone.

I used to think I would never sell, then I sold a few. Recently I have been on the trading kick. That has worked out well, mostly I buy though.
