    Handgun registration question

    1. What year and month did handgun registration at purchase become a law in California?

    2. Would it be possible to contact the California DOJ, give them my name and find out what firearms are registered to me?

These questions are in regard to a handgun that I either misplaced or was stolen from me in August of 1996.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

IIRC private party handgun sales had no paper trail until the late 80s or early 90s.

        Pretty sure it was 1990.

ETA: Yup, it was 1990. I couldn't quickly find the PC, but the following link to Calguns Wiki claim 1990 in the first paragraph. http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Firearms_Registration

          Before 1991.

01-01-1991 = all transfers must be done through a CA FFL dealer

Prior to that cash & carry type transfers between non-FFLs were legal in CA.
