    Crappy Gun Stores

There might be a thread on this somewhere but didn't see it. Sorry if this makes some of you mad.

I just want to throw out that Ronning Arms in Modesto is probably the worst gun store around. Very dishonest. What is with them taking gun locks out of new guns shipped to the store and then selling them back to the customer? Every gun has to be sold with a gun lock and a lot of manufactures include a gun lock with there gun. Sleezy way to make a buck.

If someone orders a gun from Ronning Arms, and the cancel, they charge a 25% restocking fee. OK makes since but what about when it takes the a year just to get a popular holster or popular gun like a sig?

It has even been said that He has sold Glocks with only one magazine. If you take a gun there to get cleaned, thats a joke. $50 dollars just for them to run a couple patches through the barrel and spray the action.

The selection of guns on the floor is a joke to. Prices there compete with the HIGH prices at bass pro shop, and most stuff has to be ordered. You know know, one of there friends might be reading this and try to get me on slander. Its not slander when it is the truth.

Sorry about my ranting, needed to vent.

That does suck, I don't know if Ronning Arms has been mentioned before, but many others have. The hard fact of the matter is, gun shops on this state are really struggling. Being a small business owner in CA is a royal pain in the ***, and often more expensive than it's worth. Retail stores (no matter what kind) are fighting to compete with massive online stores who have possibly less overhead to operate their business. Many other the shops in my area who focus on sales, are really dying. Those "older" gun shops who still gunsmith and repair just about anything related, are faring a bit better.

Nothing, however, provides a compelling enough excuse for that kind of dishonesty. If I ever see that crap, ANYWHERE, I take my business elsewhere.

I would think that if you could prove that they took a mag or gunlock out of a pistol box that somebody ordered, that would be theft. I know when I order guns what they are supposed to come with, and I wouldnt hesitate to call the place that shipped it from right there in the store if something was missing from the box.

I have never been to this store, but I have been to some crappy stores. Vote with your dollars, and if you are wronged, investigate it and do whatever you can to make it painful on the person that stole from you.

YMMV, IANAL, and this doesnt apply to every and all situations.

The locks that came with the Glocks were the same ones we sold to the customers. Hes just going to screw himself, because on the back of the packet were the manuel is, theres a sticker saying this firearms was shipped with a CA approve gunlock.

I don't know how well they clean guns but, at the shop I work at we charge $45 and normally strip the gun down to the frame, inspect every part as it gets cleaned and then reassemble it. So, lets say it takes a hour/gun on average that's not a lot for the work and expertise that one needs to do it right. Yea, "expertise" is what I mean. Some people pay +$75 for an oil change or even more for a plumber to clear a clog because they don't have or, don't want to use their own "expertise". Again. I'm not saying that the shop in question does or doesn't do a good job. I'm just saying that his price is the going rate for a first rate cleaning.

....and on the opposite side of the coin are the really good, honest FFL dealers and G smiths. My vote is for Don Gussler {Santee,Ca.} He has done many transfers for me and is knowledgable about the laws and will take the time to work with a newbie.

I have been around guns my whole life. I joined the military and was one of their small arms repairman. I have been doing that for about 8 years. I also went to a Gunsmithing school in Colorado and got an A.O.S. I have cleaned many guns in my lifetime so far. What RA does is not first rate, like the shop that you refered to. The owner wants it done in less than 20 minutes. He already has the intention there to rip the customer off. All they do is run a bore snake down the barrel and spray the action with tetra gun spray and blow it out. I know this because that what he had me do! He would want me to concertrate on the outside of the gun so it looked clean.

He has two gunsmiths there. One of them I would trust. He seems to know what he is doing. The other one on the other hand, if a part cant be ordered for it, he probably couldn't fix it So when you bring a gun there, you have a 50/50 chance of it going to a compatent gunsmith.

Yeah, I only go to Ronning Arms to shoot, since it's the only range around.
I was actually about to make a thread about how much gun stores in general seem to really suck. EVERY gun store I go to, the people aren't friendly, are borderline rude, and seem to have no concept of customer service, even at the point when you're handing money over to them.
My local FFL even stopped accepting OLLs and wouldn't transfer my latest fixed-mag rifle. So I went to a place in Fremont that would, but guess what? Also rude as hell.

Corruption is what they specialize in. But I want to give some of the workers a shout out though. I know of a few that try to treat people right. They just can't leave there job.

I have noticed this also. Most gun stores have the most rude employees and owners of any buisness I have ever seen. My brother in Colorado said he had the same experiance there but atleast he doesn't have to hear "NO!!!! that would be an assault weapon" everytime he asks about a specific gun.
