Looks like it's carbine length which is about 7 inches

I have a S&W Sport and added MagPul "carbine length" handguard and it fits like a glove.

The sport uses a carbine hand guard and a milspec buffer tube. It's a great rifle.

I got a tacticool quad rail for mine, and it was a lot heavier than the issue hand guard with a lot of unused rail space. I ended up taking it off and returning to the light and simple issue hand guard. The magpul looks like it might be light as well, but I haven't tried it.

Sooner or later the tacticool urge will fade, and that's a good thing

Magpul on mine also. Plus, it has a built-in heat shield.

I took my Sport to a 2 day rifle class out at Front Sights and 1/2 thru the 1st day I broke out the tools and took all the BAD levers and crap off of the rifle to lighten it up and make it more manageable. Only things still on it is a stock with a place to keep spare batteries for the red dot mounted on the top side and the magpul hand guard. KISS is my new approach.
