    Scope mounting help (Sacramento)

I recently purchased a Remington 783 .270 and mounted a vortex 3-9x40 with Remington integral scope mounts. I experienced some slipping last weekend and was looking for advice and/or help if anyone is in the Sac area.

Was trying to avoid purchasing a lapping kit and was debating purchasing a torque wrench and liquid electrical tape today.

Don't be afraid to buy tools.
You keep that stuff for life, and can loan them to friends.
If you want things done right, gotta get the right tools.

i asked about lapping one time. most said it's only for cheap scopes. you should be OK with vortex w/o lapping (i have a pst).

did you first degrease the area where the rings would mount on the scope and also decrease the rings?

did you buy a torque wrench for scope? i'd recommend that though I've not had slipping before, i did with a falcon menace scope and a american defense mfr 1-pc scope mount for an AR.

some said they use nail police as a thread locker. get green or blue locktite.

yes...these tools should last you too.

Lapping is NOT for cheap scopes. I lapped my Luepold MK4 and MK4 rings, they are not cheap, and still needed it.

Removed the scope and wiped down both scope and rings with alcohol to remove any grease. Remounted without lapping, applied torque evenly, and used loctite on screws.

Headed to the range in a few to try it out.

Get Weaver rings at Walmart. They work perfectly and wont slip.

At the minimum, buy a torque wrench. You have to torque the screws down according to the manufacturer's specification or it will either slip, or you'll apply too much torque and break something.

Went to Cordova shooting center to 0 in the remounted scope and all is well.
