Bought my first gun some 20+ years ago. I'll let you know if and when the itch stops.

GunBroker and the internet is my enabler. Only had 2 G43s in 2005 when I first got on the internet. Now I have a hoard. So much information and so much access.

I live in the good old days.

Maybe it's only temporary, but I've actually replaced the urge to buy more guns with the urge to improve some of the ones I've got. That mostly means optics, and optics are just as much of a money-sink as guns are. They do take less room in the safe though

Having kids really slowed me down. Between diapers, college accounts, preschool and kid activities I have little spare time to shoot or $$ to buy guns/ammo.

Now that my son is turning 5 we have been shooting bb guns. He is almost ready to try a .22. I scored a relatively inexpensive 1022 that I am going to covert into a youth rifle.

Now that I have to make more room in the safe, I will probably be tempted to buy a few more guns

Have you paid off all of your credit cards? Are you contributing to your 401k? If you have extra cash after that, yeah! go buy the gun.....

Would it be a good idea to maybe start buying ammo and I mean spare ammo like "hoarder status ammo"
Old problems are like dry poop, if you let the dry poop sit it doesn't smell but the minute you decide to stir the poop with a stick, the smell comes back. Moral of the story, Don't bring up old problems!

it's always a good time to start buying ammo for shooting and hoarding.

Kalifornia funky laws finally helped me pushed the itch away. Nothing on the list of handgun work for me. Rifle wise, Never again will I buy a beautiful Rifle only to have it pinned or extended ,just to satisfy some brainless 30clips,30 calibers,Ghost gun lawmaker.

Same here. As long as CA doesn't allow "30 clip magazines", or anything else above 10rds for that matter, I have no desire to buy any more pistols or shotguns. Still some rifles I wouldn't mind getting though, even if it has to be neutered. Plenty of wheelguns too.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

It stops when you decide to stop. I have been actively using firearms since I was 9 years old (BB before then). You actually have more firearms in total than I have ever owned at one time.

My rule is that if I am actively not going to use it or practice with it then I will not purchase it or keep it unless it is a heirloom.

According to my spreadsheet, since 12/2012 I've bought 93 handguns, 39 rifles, and one shotgun. Six handguns in that timeframe means you didn't take full advantage of SSE.

                          You haven't been buying enough!

Since the beginning of 2015, I did buy 18 handguns and now I'm not actively shopping for more if that helps answer your question. That's probably my saturation point.

I like rifles better than handguns just my preference
