Yes I can sell my BNIB Glock 19 gen4 for $1000! Lol jk

Good to hear the marines get to choose what they feel they needed.

In the end this has nothing to do with brand gloating but making sure the soldier is comfortable and uses what they like. The MARSOC operators seem to have pushed for this decision.

Seems odd to me they would go from using/wanting a full-size gun to a carry size

Interesting. I don't recall seeing this logic whenever anyone defended the 1911 by saying "MARSOC uses it".
We in Bangor, Maine now baby.

Glock worked hard on getting this contract. However, Glock 17 grip is a way too fat, especially when shooting in gloves

It's comforting knowing that we have gun munition experts advising our U.S. troop armament plans.

I'm surprised they didn't choose the H&K VP9; I hear it's the best gun evaaah!

Never in the military, but would carrying concealed be a reason why those guys would go to a 19 instead of a 17?

I believe it's for a lot of reasons, namely weight, ammunition capacity, and size. These guys might have to pack a lot gear depending on the type of op they're going on, so every ounce of weight and space is considered.

Being a .45 guy, I sure hate to see the Colt Marine M45a1 get retired after such a short stint.

This story absolutely cannot be right.

The Marine Corps has authorized MARSOC operators to carry Glock pistols, since most of the elite outfit's members prefer the popular 9mm over the custom .45 pistols the service bought them in 2012.
There is a Calguns consensus that every marine who has ever lived would prefer a 1911 in .45 over any 9mm made. This has to be a NATO/UN/FEMA trick!
My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.

I carry a Glock 9mm on duty for over 20 years now and own several Glocks.

I am not going to start a Glock 9mm VS. 1911 .45 topic, but I think Glock 9mm is a great weapon.

Light , reliable (GEN4 too is You use NATO or LE ammo), 15, 17 and 33rd magazines are available, easy to service in field.

Most recent LE Active Shooter training has shown that having an accurate , reliable pistol that has light recoil and can hold A LOT of bullets can make a big difference in the outcome.

Wonder what they're gonna do with the "old" 1911s? I'll take one!

                        Sorry, not sorry.

It's good to see that they have done away with one size fits all mentality. Kudos to the USMC brass for allowing choices.

The downsides mentioned at the end of the article are almost non-existent in higher end 1911 platforms. You only really see this in mill-spec budget 1911's. The colt marine pistol is not a mill-spec gun...

With that being said, its understandable with a magazine capacity of 2x+ and a lighter package, that the glock becomes a desirable sidearm. If you think about it, the "1911 accuracy" is not really needed when the gun is rarely being used outside of close quarters. The larger magazine capacity shines in those situations.

But of course, imo, At the end of the day, its what you trained the most with that is going to be "the best gun".

I can't believe the way the Internet making a big deal out of this.

They are not replacing the M1911 with the Glock 19.

They are just making it official that the Marine Special Operation can use it, if needed.

The same as Army and Navy Special Operation have for years.

The Marines are new players in the Special Ops community, they are behind the eight ball and playing catch up. They just made it official, I'm sure they have been in thier inventory for some time now.
Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.
