Why a bullet button on an AR "pistol"

Just a thought, why do AR pistol owners need a bullet button on a firearm classified/registered as a "pistol"?

My Glock is a pistol and doesn't have a bullet button....

Just wondering. I did a search on key words and couldn't find anything. Any info/thoughts/rants (but not too much) would be greatly appreciated.

CA assault weapons laws for handguns are different than those for rifles and shotguns.

A semi-auto pistol that accepts a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip = assault weapon [PC 30515(a)(4)(D)]

Since the magazine is located outside of the semi-auto pistol's pistol grip, in order to be CA legal, the magazine needs to be a fixed magazine that holds 10 or less rounds.

    Penal Code 30515
    (a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, "assault weapon" also means any of the following:
    (4) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
    (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
    (B) A second handgrip.
    (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer's hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
    (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.
    (5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

If you want, you could always add an "evil feature" like a threaded barrel to your glock and have to put a mag lock on it too.

Yup . . threaded barrel will also make it an AW unless is has a fixed mag.

Has anyone thought of making an ARish pistol with a modified magwell that can be used as the "pistol grip" with some kind of lever system like a bullpup to actuate the hammer?

Sure, people have thought about it, but the bulk required to surround the mag well(remember, AR mags angle forward) plus covering the mechanism that the new trigger would need to run back with a bar to actuate the real trigger, would give the grip the profile of a couple sodacans glued together. Not to mention the complexity of it for a fairly niche market would drive the cost through the roof due to the low sales volume.

The short answer is because our state is a fun sponge ran by idiots who hate our second amendment rights..
