    M855/SS109 Petition

Hey so when i heard about this i thought how can we stop this and came across this petition and thought it couldn't hurt if we got enough attention from it. I for one would like to see this shot down and not have overpriced 5.56 and if you feel the same way this petition is for you.

Even if you don't use the M855 rounds. This petition is not about the "Green Tip" ammo, this is to voice our opinion and defend our rights.

So if you are a law abiding citizen, if you enjoy recreational shooting/hunting, you should sign the petition!

Thank you for the link OP!!

I suggest you skip that useless petition and contact your Senator and Congressman (yea I know who our state senators are). Also contact other progun senators and congressman from other states. Tell them you are from California and that you know your politicians are idiots, but you would like them to help since the ban effects all states.

I tried the petition...it said I'd get an email to validate my petition signature. 36 hours later, still no email.

That petition is useless. It's Obama's site and he just laughs at them unless it's a petition for something on his agenda. You need to write, call and email the ATF and your elected officials about this. Change.org was setup so that people can feel like they are doing something when they're really not.

ATF will accept comments on this proposal until March 16, 2015. Email or write ATF today and tell them you oppose this unnecessary, misguided and damaging ban on commonly used ammunition for America's most popular sporting rifles. **

Here's an easy way to oppose this ban.

I'm contacting you to express my opposition to the BATFE's letter regarding the designation of M855/SS109, 5.56mm ammunition as "armor piercing." This is not only incorrect by common sense and by design, but also by statute.

Per "18 U.S. Code Section 921," M855 does not fit either provided definition of armor piercing as the projectile's core is neither entirely made of any of the listed metals/alloys OR has a jacket weight exceeding 25% of the projectile's total weight. Therefore, M855/SS109 should continue to be exempt as it doesn't meet the criteria defined by law to be armor piercing.

Classifying M855 as "armor piercing" will remove an economical source of surplus ammo from multitudes of recreational and competitive shooters without making any substantial impact on public safety.
