Well what am I supposed to think? LOL. He said "take out my SBR (with happy switch) today", you have it in your car, and what appear to be apartments in a tiny fogged up sideview mirror, and expect people to know he's still on base?

Not exactly a leap to jump to my conclusion, IMHO. Details are your friend

I highly doubt any 0-5 (LTC) or above would allow it.

Unit order authorized by the unit CO allows me to transport in my POV.

I retired from the Army in '97. When not deployed, NO military issued weapons allowed in POV's, no exceptions for officers and NCO's, but their are RARE exceptions for operational requirements such as special ops body guards for flag officers and others and also when in a combat zone. Things may have changed since. When transporting military firearms off base, such as for a funeral detail, they must be transported in a government vehicle (bus, sedan) and do not need to be in a case.

Other branches of service may have their own policies.
