Well, getting back to the OP:
As others have stated, there is no "best" handgun. Especially for defensive use. That "defensive" use can vary a lot as well. I don't have an LTC, so I can't carry unless I go to Arizona or Nevada and carry according to their laws, so conceal-ability isn't an issue for me. My defensive handguns are relegated to either truck gun or home defense status. I carry my Glock 22 as a truck gun unloaded in a Gun-Vault box. When it comes to guns, everything is a trade-off. I have less firepower and a less powerful gun (compared to a long arm), but it's easier and faster to get into action if I need it. For home defense, my main gun is my M1A Scout loaded with Federal 150 gr. Fusion. I've got an Aimpoint, sling, and light on it. I also have pre-ban 20 round mags.
