I give these guys credit. They took the invitation to wear the other guys boots. They were surprised by the result. The article is worth the read. The question is how we would react?

That was a surprisingly respectful article from Faux News. Suspiciously light in detail-- it almost feels too good. As for the subject matter, it was very brave from those vocal social leaders to put themselves in a situation that could potentially justify the actions they criticize.
Would I react the same? Probably. I am not trained. I actually plan on taking a trip down to Artemis Defense in South OC to see how I do with a 80,000 volt penalty for being a bad shot/slow + judgment calls.
Is the exercise useful? Hard to say. I am inclined to believe that if you have an officer with a bullet proof vest on, backup a radio call away, a taser, and a gun, and if that officer ever feels skittish or particularly fearful, then that officer is in the wrong profession. Everybody should support weeding out incompetent or abusive LEOs, because their visibility in society is so high, and their function so important. Even still, I tend to give more weight to the LEO in situations where things go bad. I'm positive most LEOs don't want to hurt any body, and victims rarely are just victims. -
As you will notice in the article, in at least one scenario, there was no back up. In the Brown case back up was on the way when the officer was attacked. Total confrontation was in less than 30 seconds.
Bullet proof vest only covers the vital organs front and back, but sides, groin, legs, face, and head are left totally exposed. If the bad guy has a gun or knife, you have no idea where he/she is going with it.
I highly recommend the simulator at Artemis. Sandy and Steve run a top notch enterprise, and you will get to view the world from the first responders frame of reference.Comment
