    corroded ammo

just bought 40 rounds of 7.7 Jap ammo; one of the boxes, most of the ammo is corroded... any reason I shouldn't shoot it?

    Clean it.

    How corroded is it?

Most corroded ammo is safe to clean & shoot but since I can't check your ammo it could be corroded enough to cause case failures.

How corroded is the question? Hit em with steel wool. If just discolored. Shoot em. If pitted under the discoloration. Chuck em.

Who made it or is it original surplus ammo. If its the latter it is much more valuable as a collectors item.

I have used a Flitz (a very small amount) on ammo that was showing corrosion. If there's pitting under the boogers, don't shoot. Just make sure you get all the polish off before shooting. If there's any corrosion near/on the primer, I usually dont shoot.

The primer looks corroded, so it will either not work, or blow out.

The corroded neck may separate from the rest of the case and get stuck in chamber.

If the gun is only worth $20, I would tie it to a tree and pull the trigger with a long string to see what happens. Otherwise I would just disassemble the cartridge, and use what was still good.
