A new strain of COVID-19 prevalent in China has been identified in multiple areas in the United States.

The new strain—known as COVID-19 NB 1.8.1—was first detected in China in January this year, and on May 23 the World Health Organization (WHO) classified it as a variant "under monitoring," as it is increasing globally.

Now the strain has been reported in the US, arriving with international travelers to California, New York City, Virginia and Washington; Other cases have been reported in Hawaii, Ohio and Rhode Island, according to the New York Post.

A spokesperson for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told Newsweek that the organization "is aware of reported cases of COVID-19 NB.1.8.1 in China and is in regular contact with international partners.

"There have been fewer than 20 sequences of NB.1.8.1 in the U.S. baseline surveillance data to date, so it has not met the threshold for inclusion in the COVID Data Tracker dashboard...

As I've said in the past, I don't downplay the potential problems (especially the very real deaths that have resulted FROM Covid). However, I don't exactly see the need for the media to play 20 cases in the U.S. and 518 cases reported worldwide into another 'panic-inducing' set of headlines.

I was talking to one of the nurses at the facility where the gal resides that I'm a medical power of attorney for. She was declaring an awareness of this new variant and how everyone needed to be vaccinated and boosted. After all, she immediately took it when it became available.

Let's say she got a look on her face akin to my needing to be banned from the facility when I pointed out that I wasn't vaccinated and wasn't allowing this gal to receive any more boosters. (She's had COVID, we think, and she's had the two shot vaccine when she first went in. I'd have to look, but I think she got one booster by the facility doctor 'playing games' in declaring her competent just long enough to get her permission for a booster, with her losing her grasp on reality two days later and having to go to the hospital; which was about the time I became a power of attorney for her as her son realized he couldn't be available at all times.) As I pointed out, if it's truly a vaccine, then by the CDC's own propaganda, she has the best of both worlds, natural immunity and vaccine induced immunity. If it's not a vaccine, then the boosters don't necessarily help anymore than the flu shots do and I know she didn't take those, having tried one once and immediately becoming sick.

All of this is why I started the thread. The media, once again, seems determined to feed some sort of 'mass hysteria' if they can create it. If they can't, then they've got it floating around out there so that were it to become 'something,' they can point fingers and self-righteously declare they did their job and 'warned' us. Then they can utilize it in the manner I was alluding to in terms of attempting to pin the blame on someone.

Doctors issue urgent health warning as dangerous new Covid virus from China triggers US outbreak

A dangerous new Covid variant from China is surging in California, health officials warn.

The California Department of Public Health warned this week the highly contagious NB.1.8.1 strain has been detected in the state, making it the sixth US state to be exposed...

Since April, NB.1.8.1 has increased from two percent of Covid cases in California to 19 percent, according to health department data.

Lab tests suggest NB.1.8.1, which was first detected in January in China, is more infectious than currently circulating strains, which means it could lead to a spike in infections and hospital admissions.

World Health Organization data also suggests it makes up more than half the variants currently circulating.

The warning comes as some physicians in California have called for the return of mask mandates to emulate countries like Hong Kong...

NB.1.8.1 is not yet prevalent enough in the US to be publicly tracked by the CDC. Strain LP.8.1 is currently the most dominant in the US, making up 73 percent of Covid infections...

Covid tests in California as of April 19, the latest data available, show 2.1 percent of tests came back positive, a steady rate compared to weeks prior.

The rate of hospitalizations from Covid during the week of April 19 in California was 1.3 per 100,000 people, a slight decrease from 1.6 per 100,000 the week before...

This comes on top of reports of retailers meeting with Trump warning of a change in U.S. Retail due to his tariffs, where shelves are going empty and that they'll have to raise prices, just like with COVID.
