Andrew Cuomo Subpoenaed In Handling Of Nursing Homes During COVID

Andrew Cuomo subpoenaed by congressional subcommittee investigating COVID-era handling of nursing homes

The House subcommittee tasked with investigating the nation's response to the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday subpoenaed former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in relation to his administration's handling of nursing homes during the pandemic, according to documents first obtained by ABC News.

Specifically, the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic is seeking to question Cuomo about one of his administration's most controversial COVID-era directives: instructing nursing homes to admit recovering COVID-positive patients from hospitals, a move that has faced criticism that it led to increased deaths in nursing homes...
The letter is embedded in the article, but the full page version can be viewed... Here.

Let's just say that the Republican-led committee doesn't seem predisposed to simply 'accept' Cuomo's mutterings in defense of his actions and no longer appears content to tolerate his machinations...

...It is now clear that your strategy from the beginning has been to delay and undermine our investigation. You have repeatedly and consistently dismissed, deflected, or ignored all questions and requests from the Select Subcommittee related to your handling of nursing homes. Publicly, you and your spokesman have downplayed our investigation - characterizing it as a political attempt to weaponize people's pain. In actuality, as elected officials, it is our obligation and responsibility to recognize people's pain and to address the surrounding issues that led to or created their pain.

Your unwillingness to seriously cooperate with our requests and to negotiate a reasonable date to participate in a transcribed interview has unjustifiably delayed our investigation. This is unacceptable...
Unfortunately, I don't get the sense that any notable 'punishment' is in the off'ing; but, at least, it will provide an opportunity for Republicans to flagellate him with rhetoric. Kinda like being flogged with a wet noodle. But, what else we got?

It?s called involuntary manslaughter and all those governors that put sick people in with old people should be charged with us multiple multiple multiple times

This is another one of those ways you can tell Covid was fake because why are the deaths and only federally run nursing homes are the private ones had almost 0 deaths that?s not how stats work when it comes to medicine stuff

IIRC 5 major Dem Governors did this, including likely future POTUS Newsom.

Why are the RINOs going after the only one who was taken out by The Establishment over a bogus non-scandal?

I'd like to think there is some inside baseball about getting him on record first, but I'm assuming that would be giving RINOs way too much credit.

I suspect that's part of the reason.

By getting him to step down due to the 'non-scandal' (the sexual abuse/misconduct allegations), his actions related to COVID were no longer being plastered on the front pages. As a result, it's been quietly tucked away insofar as national attention and how it played in terms of the Draconian measures some locations enacted. The letter in the OP only suggests the 'benign' rationale...

...Accordingly, your testimony is vital to our investigation into the effectiveness of federal guidance and regulations implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic regarding the protection of nursing home residents. Further, this investigation may inform legislation to enhance the federal scientific guidance process, including the drafting, publication, and implementation of guidances originating from CMS or CDC...

I think what many are more 'hopeful' of is that what is being suggested is that there is more 'there there' and it alludes to why he was 'taken out for a non-scandal' rather than addressing the real issue(s).

Whether that 'hope' will play out, I'm not sure I'd hold my breath.

Covid Subcommittee Subpoenas Andrew Cuomo for Testimony about Nursing Home Deaths, Attempted Cover-up

...Cuomo's attorney, Rita M. Galvin, disputed the select committee's obstruction allegations and requested Monday the subcommittee reconsider its subpoena, according to a letter obtained by National Review.

A spokesperson for Cuomo accused House investigators of participating in a "press charade" and urged them to support additional military aid for Ukraine in its war against Russia.

"This is an obvious press charade: they issue a subpoena as a press release," Cuomo spokesman Rich Azzopardi told NR.

"The simple fact remains that this issue has been reviewed three times by the Department of Justice under Trump and Biden, as well as Congress and the Manhattan District Attorney who found no there there. New York followed the guidance put forth by the Trump administration in March of 2020 - as did other Democratic and Republican states. If they have a problem with that, they should look in the mirror. Congress knows this, but it?s not about the facts, this is about politics," he added.

"Do your job: Ukrainian soldiers are throwing stones at Russian tanks because we haven't sent ammunition and we still don't have a budget. Instead, they continue to play politics with Covid and weaponize people?s pain and loss of loved ones"
                Ah... More 'politics'...

What I find interesting about the letter (see link in quote) is that they are preparing for 'legal proceedings' and the lawyer is 'busy.' Uh, yeah. That'd work for the normal Joe Blow if they were attempting to avoid a subpoena.

The other things which strike me is the now 'radio silence' on the subpoena from the media and the fact that his testimony will be behind closed doors.
