Saying that Fauci was 'wrong' is kind of akin to saying water is wet.
He tried to be on 'all sides' of any question with his answers so that he could later say... "See? I told you." If confronted, he will say that it was based on the best information at the time and 'science' calls for changes when information changes. Just like those proffering things like... "There's never been a large enough trial done." Fauci used to like... "If they are used properly. If not..."
Just like this piece back in April... No, Fauci didn?t say face masks were a 'failure'... followed by this piece in September... Fauci defends masking as COVID cases rise: 'I would hope' people abide by recommendations. I'm not sure Vasily Alekseyev would've attempted a lift with the weight of all the caveats. Take one from the 2nd piece...
See? He didn't 'mandate,' just recommended based on someone else's data and the reliability of that data is based on the scale and individuality. Uh... How about do as I say, not as I do?..."I am concerned that people will not abide by recommendations," he said. "I would hope that if we get to the point that the volume of cases is such and organizations like the CDC recommends - CDC does not mandate anything - recommends that people wear masks, I would hope that people abide by that recommendation and take into account the risks to themselves and their families."...
"When you're talking about the effect on the pandemic as a whole, the data is less strong," Fauci, who retired from his senior health post last year, said. "But when you talk about an individual basis of someone protecting themselves... There's no doubt that there's many studies that show that there is an advantage [to masks]."...

But... But... He was taking a drink. (Note the bottle of water by his side.) Is he actively drinking? No. Anyone can be caught 'out of context.' Don't believe me? Did Fauci change his mind on the effectiveness of masks?
Which statements? Those when he told us to mask up or those when he said masks didn't do the job; the latter being walked back when he said he was lying to protect masks for use by front line workers and not the ordinary people....Fauci explained that in the spring, "we were not aware that 40 to 45% of people were asymptomatic, nor were we aware that a substantial proportion of people who get infected get infected from people who are without symptoms. That makes it overwhelmingly important for everyone to wear a mask."
"So when people say, 'Well why did you change your stance? And why are you emphasizing masks so much now when back then you didn't -- and in fact you even said you shouldn't because there was a shortage of masks?' Well the data now are very, very clear," he said.
"We need to put that nonsense behind us about 'well they keep changing their minds,'" he said...
"I have no comment," Fauci told CNN. "I have explained the evolving situation with masks multiple times. Go to the already existing record and look at my statements on masks."
Fauci may have been 'wrong' and he may have been 'right.' It depends on what direction he thought the philosophical winds were blowing at that moment, who was paying attention, and whether you properly evaluated his caveats.
See? It's just us, once again, demonstrating we are incapable of grasping such things.Comment
