"We would've done everything differently": Newsom reflects on Covid approach

'We would've done everything differently': Newsom reflects on Covid approach

Gov. Gavin Newsom said criticism of California's tough Covid-19 restrictions was valid and he would have taken an entirely different approach, given what he knows now about the pandemic.

"I think we would've done everything differently," Newsom said in a taped interview set to air on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday...

Despite considerable prodding from Todd on specifics where Newsom would have made different decisions in his hard-hit state, including the protracted closure of in-person learning at schools, the governor largely kept to generalities...

Newsom noted the varied approaches to the virus based on region, and industry, but he also argued there "were few states that didn't go on aggressive lockdowns, including Florida's Ron DeSantis."

At the same time, Newsom bemoaned the partisan nature of the pandemic and how every decision by he and counterparts in other states and the White House were all viewed through a partisan prism...
Tell me he's not setting himself up for a Presidential run.

Newsom was drunk on power being able to pick and choose what businesses could remain open and what activities could occur. There was no science, just political favoritism.

    Screw Newsom. Never forget.

He wouldn't have done anything differently. He was taking orders directly from DC. He's a big fat lying, liar that lies. He wouldn't have kept his emergency order as long as he did if he didn't love being an authoritarian.

This is all he ever does because he's a dip****.

He’s right. We should have done things differently. Instead of shut downs, we should have tarred and feathered him.

Note he never says CA went too hard, or that FL going soft was better.

What he really means is CA didn't go hard enough, fast enough, but next (this) time he will.

However, I'm guessing he wont do the school closure thing because that mostly backfired when parents woke up to WTF was being done to their kids, and well as all the new family bonding that Liberals hate so much. Force masking in schools is where its at.

Yeah, he would prefer (and may this next go around) to have sequestered people into camps.

Pretty much everything he has done has been disastrous.

He should stick to his wheelhouse shorting coke an banging his friends wives.

When he says he'd do everything differently the Only thing he's talking about is the fact that he would wear a better disguise and use a better fake name when he goes to the expensive and exclusive "French Laundry" restaurant.

I don't know if everyone's forgotten about that B.S. but shortly after he ordered every one in the entire State to be quarantined inside their houses and not go out for Anything except badly needed essentials, Newsome and his guests were all busted eating out at a fancy rich folks restaurant when everyone else was forced to stay home.

Ever wonder how much it cost to go to this nine course fixed price menu restaurant?

                      " $350 per person
At each service, the standard two nine-course tasting menus are offered (the ?Tasting of Vegetables? vegetarian menu and the meat-inclusive Chef's Menu)."
And of course that doesn't cover drinks or gratuity.

Of course it's just a coincidence that like his aunt Nancy pelosi was able to go to an expensive hairdresser when no one else was getting haircuts.

They're all just liars. That is their job. They lie and we pay them to lie to us.

I knew it was bogus when they closed the Open Space parks "due to Covid".

Even when "busy" they are still nice and sparsely used.

Then after re-opened, and still sometimes, you see these mostly older people wearing masks and I KNOW its not for pollen, and they will get WAY off the trail to avoid me. Caught one which sheer wall on one side and cliff on the other and I think she nearly died of fright.

From Reason magazine... Gavin Newsom Spins Revisionist History of His COVID Record

...Throughout the pandemic, Newsom readily exercised his emergency powers as governor to erect a continually changing restrictions and reopening frameworks. Contra his comments that "there was no 'I,'" the governor acted unilaterally in adopting constantly changing public health restrictions.

He rebuffed legislative and legal efforts to limit his use of emergency powers. Where local governments declined to enforce many of the restrictions Newsom put into place, state agencies stepped in to threaten businesses with fines and license revocations.

Nor was Newsom just following the consensus opinion at a time of uncertainty. During the COVID spike of winter 2020-2021, the governor shut down outdoor dining and closed public parks, despite wide acknowledgement by that time that COVID was far less likely to spread outdoors.

Newsom's policies were so restrictive that they spawned mass non-compliance among business owners throughout California and criticism from some state public health officials.

Newsom's unwillingness to offer a full-throated defense of his COVID record shows he recognizes how unpopular a lot of his decisions were. His blame-shifting and revisionist history make clear he's less than fully contrite.

He spent a huge amount of money with a Chinese company for masks, a company that had never made them.

Never received anything close to number agreed.
