China Might Have 65 Million COVID Cases a Week by June. How Worried Should We Be?

It's been too long since we've been terrified by COVID. Time to consider... panic(?)... again... China Might Have 65 Million COVID Cases a Week by June. How Worried Should the World Be?

Last week when a Chinese senior health adviser projected 65 million COVID-19 cases per week in China by June, some health experts sounded the alarm.

China has been facing a new COVID-19 wave fueled by the XBB variant since April. Data from Zhong Nanshan?a respiratory disease doctor who was among the first to confirm COVID-19's easy transmissibility - provided a rare insight into how the disease could possibly be spreading in China almost six months after Beijing abruptly ended its draconian zero-COVID strategy...

With the virus continuing to circulate in China coupled with a waning public immunity, the possibility of a new, more dangerous sub-variant emerging still exists, Bennett adds, although the likelihood is much smaller now. The latest mutations in the genetic makeup of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have not been significantly different from the last major variant, Omicron, and the symptoms of infections are relatively milder. "It's somewhat reassuring, thus, now a year and a half into Omicron, that we haven't seen a major shift that's either undermined our immunity, our testing capability, and importantly, antivirals," Bennett adds...

Vincent Pang, an assistant professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore, says data on the spread and impact of COVID-19 will only be of use if shared with others on a global, well-regulated platform, so that these countries can perform their own risk assessment. "Infectious disease does not respect geographical boundaries," he tells TIME. "No one is safe until everyone is ready and safe."
...or was the 'disclaimer' buried in the middle of the piece...

...The Chinese people seem to have learned to co-exist with the virus...

I watch Korean street food videos and livestreams and the mask up and glove up still appears strong there, though it has waned. It seems more prevalent among vendors than customers. It'll be interesting to see how the noises coming out of China affect the other Asian countries.

I remember back during the travel ban, at least the early part of it, the scheduled flight from Wuhan to JFK still operated. What was on that flight IDK but it did operate, and daily. Right now there's a number of carriers operating from there and other Chinese cities as normal.

The games continue, perhaps, as The Matrix alluded to, with upgrades. Covid19 may be over but the globalists and Communists learned a lot from it and what worked and what didn't. Expect something different next time.

It will be deemed a problem here if the Dems think Trump or DeSantis are a real threat.
Otherwise, a nothingburger as it it always was.

According to a report in The New York Times on the 27th... Covid Is Coming Back in China; Lockdowns Are Not...

In December, China abruptly abandoned its draconian "Zero Covid" policies, battered by a surge of infections and rising public anger against lockdowns. Half a year on, Covid cases again are on the rise, but this time the nation appears to be determined to press on with normal life as the government focuses on reigniting economic growth.

Though other countries have long settled into such a pattern, it is a shift for China. Until late last year, its national leadership was still ready to lock down whole neighborhoods and districts, even cities, in a bid to stamp out what were sometimes just small clusters of cases...

Officials across China appear to be trying to prepare the population for a rise in infections without reintroducing the heavy controls that by late last year had exhausted public patience. Since abandoning its tight restrictions on domestic travel, the government has shifted to reviving growth and job creation. The jobless rate of about 20 percent among urban youth may appear more politically pressing than rising Covid numbers...

He added that China now treated Covid as a "Class B" illness - not the most urgent category - and officials, though monitoring the latest increase in cases, "have also been trying to reassure the public, saying that the symptoms are relatively mild."

Health officials in Beijing have recommended wearing masks on buses and subways, but it is not mandatory and quite a few passengers do not, especially younger ones. While the recent rise in cases may yet strain hospitals, many people appear more willing to endure the illness at home rather than heading to fever clinics...

"Most people have recognized from their own experience that Covid is not a monster and is not so terrifying, and that's actually positive," he said. "But it is not true that Covid is gone and will never come again, so this message also has to be made clear to the public."

Wuhan virus is not coming back in China. It is the first big spread because they were forced to quarantine for so long.

The United States should NOT enact any countermeasures mandates.

                          No more overabundance of caution

The COVID Freakers can wear masks, antisocial distance, over sanitize, vax up, or shelter in place all they want.

65 million of anything in China is a rounding error.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
