Their response? Arcturus COVID variant: XBB.1.16 has new symptom in children

...Vashishtha told Forbes pediatric COVID cases are on the increase for the first time in six months and "an infantile phenotype seems emerging."

Symptoms reported in children are:

• High fever
• Cough
• "Itchy" conjunctivitis or pinkeye without pus, but with "sticky eyes"

The latter symptom hasn't been widely reported in previous COVID waves.

The variant isn't currently spreading widely in the U.S. CDC data shows that XBB.1.16 accounts for less than 1% of cases nationally but is being monitored by the health agency. The World Health Agency is also monitoring, designating XBB.1.16 as a "variant under monitoring."

While it spreads easily, scientists said they don?t expect XBB.1.16 to be more lethal than other types of variants and will likely cause a much milder illness that resembled the flu.

Okay. XBB 1.16 doesn't appear to be anywhere near as lethal as the original variants; but, I should remain terrified. Got it.
