I hadn't thought of that. I was hoping they would get pissed, hyperventilate and pass out.

Their response? Arcturus COVID variant: XBB.1.16 has new symptom in children

...Vashishtha told Forbes pediatric COVID cases are on the increase for the first time in six months and "an infantile phenotype seems emerging."

            Symptoms reported in children are:
            • High fever
            • Cough
            • "Itchy" conjunctivitis or pinkeye without pus, but with "sticky eyes"
The latter symptom hasn't been widely reported in previous COVID waves.

The variant isn't currently spreading widely in the U.S. CDC data shows that XBB.1.16 accounts for less than 1% of cases nationally but is being monitored by the health agency. The World Health Agency is also monitoring, designating XBB.1.16 as a "variant under monitoring."

While it spreads easily, scientists said they don?t expect XBB.1.16 to be more lethal than other types of variants and will likely cause a much milder illness that resembled the flu.
Conjunctivitis hasn't been widely reported in previous waves?!?! Uh... Maybe as the only sign as of 2021... Conjunctivitis as the only sign and symptom of COVID-19: A case report and review of literature...

...However, conjunctivitis as the only sign and symptom of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a rare presentation...
But, by November 2022... Can COVID affect your eyes? 6 'COVID eye' symptoms and when to see a doctor...

...The term "COVID eye" has been floating around online when people search for answers about eye symptoms. Although we are still learning how the virus may affect the eyes, we know that some people experience inflammation which can cause mild to severe problems in numerous areas of the body.

"Our research group has found that the virus is found in the eye's tear film," says Steven Yeh, MD, Nebraska Medicine ophthalmologist. "This can sometimes lead to conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the clear membrane on the eye's surface. Most often, eye symptoms are associated with systemic symptoms of COVID, including the typical features of the respiratory illness we're familiar with including cough, fever, and fatigue."

When the eyes are exposed to the virus, a person can develop conjunctivitis symptoms, often appearing like pink eye. Symptoms may include:
            1. Tearing or watery eyes
            2. Redness
            3. Swelling
            4. Irritation or pain
            5. Itching
            6. Discharge

It's important to note that while eye symptoms have been reported in relation to positive COVID-19 cases, it is uncommon for it to be the only symptom. Although pink eye seems to be one of the more common eye symptoms, it occurs in a low percentage of people. Research also indicates it may be more common in people with severe cases of COVID-19...
I'm not sure whether this falls under 'misinformation' or that people haven't been paying attention or if it is simply in line with the Left's beliefs, similar to the idea, often displayed by Obama, of tape and video recording not yet having been invented; i.e., a manifestation of the 'Not Invented Here' Syndrome...

...In 1982, a seminal study examined the behavior of 50 R & D teams and explored the effect of the social phenomenon called Not Invented Here (NIH) Syndrome, which was described by the researchers as "the tendency of a project group of stable composition to believe it possesses a monopoly of knowledge of its field, which leads it to reject new ideas from outsiders to the likely detriment of its performance"...

Well... Maybe it ain't so bad after all... COVID XBB 1.16, nicknamed as Arcturus, is spreading faster than its ancestral variants: Know more...

...Several health experts have said that the XBB 1.16 sub variant does not have a risk of severity which was seen during the Delta wave of COVID infection; some others also deny reports of an upcoming new wave of infection.According to the WHO data, as on March 27 a total of 712 XBB 1.16 sequences were found in 21 countries. "However, so far reports do not indicate a rise in hospitalizations, ICU admissions, or deaths due to XBB.1.16. Further, there are currently no reported laboratory studies on markers of disease severity for XBB.1.16," the UN health agency said. However, health experts have warned against the infection and have urged people to stay safe and follow anti COVID measures...
Oh... Wait... I hadn't read the last paragraph...

...Dr Vashishtha mentions another recombinant variant XBC 1.6 in his tweets."XBB.1.16 & its progenies are still the fastest, but many new variants are fast approaching it. The nearest in growth potential is XBC.1.6-a recombinant of Delta & Omicron, growing quickly in Australia & few other countries," he tweets. The WHO also has three recombinant strains of the Omicron, XBB, XBB 1.16 and XBF.
Okay. XBB 1.16 doesn't appear to be anywhere near as lethal as the original variants; but, I should remain terrified. Got it.
