Scottish cyclist Rab Wardell dies at 37, days after winning championship race

Scottish cyclist Rab Wardell died unexpectedly Tuesday at age 37 after suffering cardiac arrest, his partner said.

Wardell went into cardiac arrest Tuesday morning while the couple were lying in bed, Katie Archibald, an Olympic medalist in track cycling, said in a social media post Wednesday.

It's common for pro cyclist to due of heart attacks at a young age. This has been happening for a long time. It's typically a combination of the long duration of high heart rate in training and racing plus drug use. Not many sports have that high of an intensity for 4-5 hours at a time. Then there's the use of EPO.
