The 'medical community' cares about the same thing as everyone else - getting paid. This is a political problem. The government controls the medical boards, the medical boards control the doctors. The doctors do as they're told or else they lose their licenses.

There were a couple CGN EMTs who swore doctors were free to do as they saw fit - I don't see them posting any more

She was one of the speakers in the Congressional hearing on Monday. There was a ton of good information and discussion from that hearing - worth the 5 hour watch. I saw some of it live, and watched from the beginning with the wife for a few hours last night - we will be finishing it tonight.
