The government run education industry has more than it's fair share of idiots. It also attracts people who want to be told what to do and how to do it. Once these individuals are entrenched the unions protect them.

In my experience, my friends who became teachers did so as way to settle for a safe job. None did so because they were particularly intelligent or had a passion for teaching. Those who fit into the system best became administrators.

So, stupid covid policy in the public schools should be expected.
