Start next week - NEWLY HIRED - after cancelling 1,200 flights this weekend for lack of staffing.

Do YOU really want to be on a plane next week when the supposed 1,200 new pilots start flying?

For many, it would be their first pilot jobs because because the industry as a whole would not be able to facilitate an exodous of 1,200 existing pilots from other airlines to meet AA's 1,200 fantasy.

Good luck - steer clear if American Airlines for a couple of years.

(The number is not even logically based).

New to the company doesn't mean new to flying. Still have to have an ATP and probably a type rating, depending on position. Are there still lots of pilots furloughed? Getting recalled from furlough count as "hiring" enough for a press release? Or moving a contract pilot to a full-time position count? Lots of way to play that game to look good in the paper.
And if you're leaving one major aerospace company due to no jab, it's not like they're going to get picked up by another aerospace company, who will have the same jab requirement. So moving to a new job in that same career isn't probably an option.

I get all that: but 1,200?

I can rationalize the reasons given, but a shift in the industry in just 2 week's time of 1,200 pilots, seasoned or new, seems far-fetched.

If he had done it to organize a strike or some other consequential action then there could have at least been some offsetting benefit. As it is it was just a dumb, childish move.

Doubt it. If he looks for work again it will be at non-mandate companies. They won't worry about terminated-for-no-jab.

American Airlines plans to hire on more than 1,300 by the end of 2022 as the airline sees an increased demand for travel following the worst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Company plans to hire 350 pilots by the end of 2021 and 1,000 over the course of 2022
