I tried researching different vaccine histories and I cannot find any past vaccines that were met with such heated opposition as the COVID vaccine. Maybe my Googlefu sucks, so I ask if anyone know of any other vaccines that were rejected by the public on such wide scale?

None I remember. Born in 51.
They brought our live, weakened, virus Polio vaccine to our school in a sugar cube. We welcomed it.
I guess we trusted the old school, lengthy, and thorough testing process.
Never a mandate for flu shot so no protests -
While I have read of inicdents of mask reluctance during the 1919 pandemic, the vast majority of really horrible epidemics have occured when vaccines just weren't available. As for one of the later ones (Polio) parents RACED to get their kids vaccinated without hesitation.
As for the rest (measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox diptheria, pertussis and tetanus) FEW (if any) people has objected to the vaccines as far as most medical literature suggests. (most were THRILLED to get them to stop the diseases)Comment

most vaccines have been actually vaccines that confer immunity, thoroughly tested and developed, and eventually released. And those vaccines are for diseases that have been endemic and affecting many people for many years. Lots of people knew people stuck in iron lungs or crippled from polio, or blinded by measles. This new, kind-of-maybe-helps you, experimental, "emergency use authorized", only good for a few months, shot, is simply not even close to the same thing.Comment

Has any vaccine been as politicized, lied about in order to push it, and mandated in the past? There's your answerDiaHero Foundation - helping people manage diabetes. Sending diabetes supplies to Ukraine now, any help is appreciated.

The jab is NOT a vax. I refused the pig flu vaccine in '78 while serving in the USAF. Bastards put me through a lot of crap. I fought their mandate and ended up getting out early with an HD. A few of the people i worked with in the AF got really messed up by that crap pig flu shot.
I've never trusted the gov. or had any shots since then.Comment

The OP didn't mention politics, but other people started talking about political opposition.
On the original question about opposition, the answer is yes in the military there was widespread opposition and defiance to the anthrax vaccine which was mandated.
In response to big opposition, military leaders adjusted the mandate to make it only for deployed personnel instead of everybody. After it became obvious enough that enough people were having terrible side effects then the Mandate finally stopped altogether.
My neighbor lives two doors down was in the military and got the mandatory anthrax vaccine and became infertile. He has two adopted boys.
There was no political aspect to the military opposition and defiance back then. It was just a mandate that a lot of people felt was unsafe and people didn't want to take it. They turned out to be right. This anthrax vaccine mandate was 20 years ago.National Rifle Association (NRA) Life Patriot Endowment Member

No, because non-hospital & military workers of America have never been fired over not taking a vaccine on a wide scale.
A hospital in Texas fired a few employees about the flu vaccine 10 years ago, and around 1900 there were some local smallpox vaccine mandates where the penalty was the equivalent to about $140 today, as opposed to losing your job over this.
In California, despite the fact that diseases like measles were far more common decades ago, parents (until 2016) were allowed the right to not vaccinate their own children based solely on personal preference. That shows how hysterically fearful Americans today are -- the parents who faced a much greater likelihood of their kids contacting the same disease, were allowed the freedom to not vaccinate them!
The 1976 Swine Flu isn't a good example because there wasn't even an actual epidemic occurring. One idiot doctor thought there was after a soldier died in Fort Dix. The fact this sequence of events happened in the first place shows how incompetent the federal government has been in handling potentially rapid disease outbreaks.
The 1957 & 1967 flus which were actual pandemics, and both of which had a vaccine rapidly developed, are probably the best examples. There were no mandates (and thus no resistance) for civilians at all that I have ever heard a reference to. If anyone knows anything different, please speak up.
