Employer requires testing, but won't allow testing?

So my employer has created a situation where it appears impossible to get a vaccine exemption. So my employer says that they would require weekly covid testing, but consider paying for it too much of a burden. I offered to pay for it myself, but they pointed out CA law requires that the employer pay for it.

So effectively they are enforcing a covid testing policy that they intentionally make impossible to meet, and are pointing to that as why I can't continue working for them.

Is there some CA anti retribution law or something that says they can't create a policy for the express purpose of denying anyone who tries to comply with that policy?

Do you have this in writing? It'll come in handy when they attempt to retaliate.

Yes I have it in writing. The part about required testing and undue burden to pay for it is in a signed document from hr. The part about CA law requires the employer pay for it is in an email exchange afterwards when I offered to pay for it.

Should Employers Pay for Mandatory COVID-19 Testing?

          COVID-19 Testing and Vaccine FAQs

... 1. Is my employer required to compensate me for the time spent obtaining a COVID-19 test or vaccination?

If the employer requires an employee to obtain a COVID-19 test or vaccination (see Department of Fair Employment and Housing FAQs for guidance on the types of COVID-19 tests an employer may require and on vaccination), then the employer must pay for the time it takes for the testing or vaccination, including travel time...

          2. Is my employer required to compensate me for the cost of a COVID-19 test or for the cost, if any, of getting a COVID-19 vaccination?3. What anti-retaliation protections apply to vaccinations?https://www.dfeh.ca.gov/A list of laws under the Labor Commissioner enforces that generally prohibit retaliation is provided here.

Their financial hardship trumps your right to refuse?

              F them.

If they are making it a requirement, they need to pay. I'm exempting myself from it all. F em

Yes-get it in writing or an e-mail. As willie Brown says "E" stands for evidence.

Sounds like they are seeing if you are the one who blinks first.

Has anyone actually been fired yet?
No deadline SET IN CONCRETE? Or is it still just threats/intimidation with soft deadlines?
